I'll break it down by each of Russell's title years.
56-57:
BR was 5th in minutes played behind Sharman, Cousy, Heinsohn, and Loscutoff. He was 5th in points behind those same 4 guys.
Sharman (SG), Cousy (PG), Heinsohn (PF), and Frank Ramsey (SF) were all HOFers on that team.
58-59:
BR was 1st in minutes played, but 4th in points behind Cousy, Sharman, and Heinsohn.
He had those same 4 HOFers from 57 plus HOF guards Same Jones and KC Jones on the roster too. 6 fellow HOFers on the roster. SIX!
59-60:
BR was again 1st in minutes played, but 4th in points behind Heinsohn, Cousy, and Sharman yet again.
Same 6 HOFers as the year before on the roster.
60-61:
BR was 1st in minutes played and 3rd in points behind Heinsohn and Cousy. This team had 6 players that averaged at least 15 ppg.
Same 6 HOFers as the previous season.
61-62:
BR was 1st in minutes played and second in points behind Heinsohn.
Sharman retired after the previous season so he ONLY had 5 HOFers on this team with him.
62-63:
BR was 1st in minutes played but back down to third in points behind Sam Jones and Heinsohn.
The Celtics drafted some cat named Havlichek to give them yet another HOFer around Russell- 6 again.
63-64:
BR was 1st in minutes but down to 4th in points behind Havlichek, Jones, and Heinsohn.
Cousy retired so he's back down to 5 HOFers.
64-65:
BR was 1st in minutes and back up to 3rd in points behind Jones and Havlichek.
Ramsay retired so he's down to 4 HOFers.
65-66:
BR was 1st in minutes played and 3rd in points (4th in ppg). 7 players averaged at least 10 ppg.
Heinsohn retired, so he was down to 3 HOFers.
67-68:
BR was first in minutes played but down to 4 in points. 7 players averaged at least 10 ppg again.
Celtics lost KC Jones, but picked up Bailey Howell. So still at 3 HOFers.
68-69:
BR was first in minutes played but fell all the way down to 7th in points (went under 10 ppg).
3 HOFers on the roster.
So yeah, I'd say Russell was carried by other players. He was there to clean up the boards, lock down the paint and clean up loose baskets. He was the Rodman of the 60's.

I forgot that you dropped this little nugget earlier:
quote:
Wilt was selfish but at least he was dominant in the middle.
He led the entire league in assists as a center one year. Yeah, really selfish for a guy who can hit 60% of his shots in an era where most bigs are lucky to hit over 40% to not run point.
fricking idiot.

I'm guessing he was also carried by those players when he was their head coach while simultaneously playing?

He coached one damn season when he was older and pretty much irrelevant.
Wilt owned Russell's arse head to head.

In Game 7, 15,202 stunned Philadelphia fans witnessed a historic 100–96 defeat, making it the first time in NBA history a team lost a series after leading 3–1. Russell limited Chamberlain to only two shot attempts in the second half.[19] Despite this, the Celtics were leading only 97–95 with 34 seconds left when Russell closed out the game with several consecutive clutch plays. He made a free throw, blocked a shot by Sixers player Chet Walker, grabbed a rebound off a miss by Sixers player Hal Greer, and finally passed the ball to teammate Sam Jones, who scored to clinch the win. Boston then beat the Los Angeles Lakers 4–2 in the NBA Finals, giving Russell his tenth title in 12 years.[1] For his efforts Russell was named Sports Illustrated's Sportsman of the Year. After losing for the fifth straight time against Russell and his Celtics, Hall-of-Fame Lakers guard Jerry West stated, "If I had a choice of any basketball player in the league, my No.1 choice has to be Bill Russell. Bill Russell never ceases to amaze me."[19]
Yea. You clearly dont know what the frick you are talking about. Its past your bedtime.

So one damn game changes the fact that Wilt owned Russell in their individual match-ups?

Show me where he 'owned' him.
Russell won 85 times they played compared to Wilt's 57 wins, and dont try telling me Wilt had no supporting cast.

So you are comparing what the teams did to what the individuals did? Head to head, player to player, Wilt owned Russell. Russell had guards/wings galore on his team. Wilt had two guys and scrubs. Bill Russell never played with less than 3 HOFers and played with 5-6 HOFers for multiple seasons.
Wilt was the better scorer, rebounder, and passer. Russell was a slither of a better defender, but that's because he didn't have to carrying the scoring load for his team like Wilt did.

God, you really don't understand basketball.
Basketball isn't a bunch of stats after the fact for you to gawk at and totally misunderstand and get a false impression. You need to read some books about what Bill did for those teams - how he helped make "those HOFers" in the way he controlled the game and the opposition by his play in the middle - back when the middle decided championships.
Bill was the straw that stirred that dynasty drink and the players around him. Wilt for a lot of his career was about "getting his" and he's happy. Which probably appeals to your fondness for this generational prima donna ball hogs. Get your head out of your arse and stop posting stats that have no bearing on reality back then.
Figures a Top 5 Kobe fan like yourself would be so in favor of stat compiling as how you define players. Go back to playing one-on-one video game basketball on your old Genesis. That's about the depth of your knowledge of basketball...
...Kid.

Lol this fool. Bill Russell had some of the best supporting casts of all time, and definitely the best of his era. He was a big part of that team, but when you actually look at what happened, you'll realize that as valuable as their defense was, their offense is what made them a dynasty.
As for me saying Kobe is top 5, it never happened, please oh wise one, show me where I said so. Since you know so much, I doubt it will take you long.

The best testament to Kobe is through narrative, which is the same as Russell. There are countless rave reviews of their depth of knowledge of the game and their understanding and extra effort and shite.

I think Kobe's best attributes are his shot making abilities, work ethic, size and athleticism. He and Jordan are larger than the average two guard

You need to spend a week in a library.
On second thought, make it a month and that may not be enough.

Here's my thing about Kobe. It's widely known that I really don't think he's a better basketball player than Lebron or Jordan. And for a while I didn't even think it was that close. But I think I was wron. It's at least close. I can't get over him playing with ridiculous talent for most of his career but he's been so good for an insane amount of time. His career has been mind blowing when you look how he's playing this late in it. He's awesome
I'd have to put him in my top 10 without question now.
