Is it time to get rid of Bowl Games?

With most school's not being able to sell their allotments and seemingly little interest in most bowls, is it time to just cut bait and focus on the playoff completely? And before anyone starts the 16 team playoff crap, its too many teams. I could see a 6 team playoff working and maybe, just maybe a 12 team playoff working as well. 6 team playoff would be perfect imo.

8 teams would be perfect for a playoff.
Also, I don't mind the bowls for small schools. Gives us all a chance to see talent that we otherwise wouldn't pay attention to.

Sounds like you are trying to find a way to get Bama an invite when they can't win their division or the SEC Title.

Not all of them... But back in the day when MICH played Ohio St. and the loser went home it meant more... They had like 15 bowls and REAL teams made them.. It was a shame that a 10-1 Mich team had to sit at home and watch the Rose bowl.... Football was MUCH better back then.... AND all the new years games were where they should be... On NEW YEARS DAY.............

Bowls make money on sponsors. Ticket sales add to the profit. Television needs bowl games and makes money off of them. Bowls aren't going anywhere.

As a big fan of bowls growing up, I agree with you

They do fill a void in the tv schedules this time of the year. The ratings suggest that people still watch them.
Since the NFL the last two weeks of the season and playoffs are only on weekends we won't see bowl games replaced. NBA and NHL and College Basketball aren't really in full gear in late December. I sort of wish the NBA, NHL, or CBB would try to fill the void but people like bowl games well enough people do. I can't stand 90 percent of them now.
Believe it or not there was a time when the Tangerine Bowl or Blue Bonnet Bowl or Gator bowl mattered because you had only about 15 bowls and there were hardly any games on tv during the regular season. For many of us back then you saw some teams like Pitt or Alabama twice a year maybe and lower rank bowl games were important because seeing Ohio State play Clemson or Michigan play North Carolina was a big deal because unless you had season tickets you only saw teams two to three times in season and with regional coverage on ABC you might never see schools like Clemson or LSU if you lived out of the South.
Bowl games were still a way to see many teams until the early 90s.

No way. We have the Beef O'Brady Bowl as backup to the MNF game. You can't beat that.
