I mean they could be the lowest seed ever in the Final Four with one more win, but they’re still a P5 making millions from tv money... can they really be called Cinderella?

And weren’t going to sniff the tournament without winning the Pac 12 tournament which is not easy in itself. They’ve won a bunch of games in a row as ~7 point underdogs.

Yeah the Pac 12 is basically a mid major conference at this point. I’d say they are a Cinderella for sure considering they were projected to be the worst team in one of the worst conferences in America.

And yet they’ll have two teams in the Elite Eight.

They were picked to finish dead last in the Pac12.

They needed to win the Pac12 Tourney to make the NCAAs.

And they won it by two points.

Oregon State is a garbage program with a garbage history that played garbage basketball as recently as a month ago.

This is a 1-7 Jacksonville Jaguars reaching the AFCCG.

This is Vanderbilt football reaching the SECCG.

This is Oregon State football getting to the Fiesta Bowl and finishing in the top 5. Oh wait...

There are no Cinderellas this year, cause there are no handsome princes. Lots of mediocre teams, no great teams.

Nothing mediocre about the Bever's defense. In fact, the level of defense being played in this tourney has been outstanding. At some point, the more talented teams with good defensive principles of their own will mow them down but for a team to get to the elite 8 with that talent level is remarkable. Defense ain't sexy but it sure is the great equalizer.

They’ve gone on an insane run. They were 11-11 a month ago and now a win away from the final four. Didn’t know they were picked to finish last in their conference. That makes their run even more improbable

They’re definitely a fun story but I have a hard time viewing a P5 team as a Cinderella regardless of how bad they played in the regular season

If Oregon State won it all, it would be more akin to Fresno State winning the CWS:

The Bulldogs entered the Western Athletic Conference tournament at 33–27; they would likely not have made the NCAA tournament without winning the WAC tournament, which they did.

I would say yes. 12 seed is for AQs that wouldn’t have gotten an at large bid. It used to be the last seed line for at large bids but that’s changed since the introduction of the play in games.

Fake news. Oregon State was the second best program in the PAC behind UCLA during the 70s & 80s under Ralph Miller with players like AC Green and Gary Payton. They also won a ton in the early days under Slats Gill, which is why they are in the top 25 all-time in wins.

The last time they were relevant, they lost in the tournament to Georgetown in Patrick Ewing's FRESHMAN year. They went 39 years after that without a tournament win.

Penn and Western Kentucky are also in the top 25 all-time in wins. That stat doesn't exactly make you relevant.
