it's not.

Trout is currently playing in the better of the two leagues.
Bonds spent his career in the NL which was the better league for a huge chunk of Barry's early career.

Strikeout numbers are staggering. Bonds only had one season with 100+ strikeouts (102 in 1986, his rookie year). Meanwhile, Trout has had 5 seasons with 130+ Ks. Huge disparity in strikeouts to walks, even early in their careers.

Also, pre steroid Bonds was the only 400/400 player in history. Trout could get there in the next 7-10 years.

OPS & OPS+ takes walks and strikeouts into consideration

At peak, Barry Bonds, but is certainly possible that Trout could keep improving. LINK

I am not convinced that Trout will surpass his single-season WARs from 2012 and 2013. His base running and defense are not at the same level and they will likely only trend downward each season. He would have to become a significantly better hitter to make up for that lost value to increase to a 12 WAR player or so.

OPS considers strikeouts as an out, but it does not differentiate from other types of outs.

Correct. Was more referencing that it gives credit to bonds for his walks, as OBP is its main component

The DH... Plus Bonds pre-roid was playing In the early 90's.. A total different era... Trout Is great no doubt... But there is NO telling what kind of numbers Bonds could have put up in the AL had he played there his whole career...

Yeh, an era where offensive was inflated.......

I am seriously starting to think you believe Trout and Bonds are pitchers

Yeah, they do. But the raw numbers tell me more clearly that Trout strikes out a lot more than Bonds ever did.

I'd really like to see what is going to happen to Trout whenever he gets the really big money. Is he going to be as good when he gets the 300m+ contract and has all that pressure, plus all the other distractions. It's just a whole different world now. If people would have asked me 5 years ago, I would have swore that Tim Lincecum would be the greatest pitcher of all time. Projecting guy's careers just never works out how we think it will..

pitchers are even tougher to project.
most people if you can hit, you can keep hitting.

pitchers seemingly pop up outta nowhere and studs disappear suddenly.
