You do realize that basically none of their starters played past half time right?
I'm fully aware.
So what you're telling me is the backups can't hold Arkansas State to less than 34 points?
ETA: If Oregon wants any hope at winning a national championship they have to improve their depth on defense. That is the most glaring weakness IMO.

Oregon impressed the hell out of me, and all those points were after they started playing back ups.If Mariota is for real, they will be playing for the championship. You probably didn't even watc the game.

He just said on Sportscenter that Oregon was the most impressive team last weekend.
IF LSU and Alabama stay undefeated till they play and USC, Oregon and FSU lose, you are going to see some serious scrambling this year by the talking heads...
They have had enough SEC. They will derail this train if they can.

I watched it. Was pretty jawdropping really.
49-0 only 18mins into the game. LSU couldn't do that agianst a high school team, most points I've ever seen in a quarter.
With 10:50 to play they took out all the starters and started running up the middle.

Matt Millen is Lou Holtz without the lisp.
Holtz has so much more credibility than Millen its not even a fair comparison.

I watched the game, it would have been more impressive against a better team.
29 points is the most you've seen in a quarter?

One time I had to watch a game with Matt Millen and Michael Irvin in the booth. I'd never come away from something feeling less smart until that time

1. Matt Millen, Detroit Lions (31-84, .270 winning percentage in seven-plus seasons): • Four years into his tenure -- all sub-.500 seasons -- owner William Clay Ford was impressed enough to give Millen a five-year contract extension at $5 million per year. • Has drafted 5,720 wide receivers in the first round of the NFL draft, a record that will never be broken. • The "Fire Millen" slogan became a phenomenon in Michigan and elsewhere. "Fire Millen" chants, signs and T-shirts have shown up at Lions, Red Wings, Pistons, Michigan and Michigan State games, at WrestleMania, across the country. A Detroit radio station organized the "Millen Man March" after Millen's contract extension was announced in December 2005. For years, fans of rival teams held up "Keep Millen" signs.
this why i lol everytime i see him on tv as an football expert

Na but he was slobbering all over their QB and DeAnthony Thomas. He said they might be better than last year. They may very well be better, however, how can one get that from playing Arkansas State and giving up 34 points to them?
They were up 50-3 at half with the starters in and then not one starter played in the second half. Go and watch the game....you will see that they are way better than last year and they EASILY have the most explosive offense in the county. I could see LSU or Bama beating them because of their defense but I have a feeling they are going to steamroll USC. Their freshman QB might me the best QB in the nation. Before you laugh go watch the replay on ESPN3....their offense is unreal,

There is no way that anyone who watched that game would be saying anything other than WOW!!!!

The most impressive thing about that game was Mariota looking very good. He'll be ready as the season moves on to tougher opponents. His first ever start or D1 action ever and the dude looked great.
He was easily the best QB in the country week one. EASILY!

Everyone must have missed my statement of, "I watched the game"
They did the basically the same thing the 2nd week of the season last year against Nevada and won 69-20 and were up 41-7 at half. At least Nevada is a halfway respectable team.
What makes you think they will "steamroll" USC after beating Arkansas State?
ETA: And none of this proves that what Matt Millen said is even remotely true. He said that Oregon impressed him the most out of any of the teams last weekend.
Anyone with half a brain can surmise that Alabama looked the best, skull fricking the #8 team in the country.

We will see how good that win is at the end of the season. Decent chance they finish unranked. #8....

I also said previously in this thread that I think Michigan is overrated.
However, Michigan >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Arkansas State.

Arkansas State is in the Sun Belt. They are average. Did they bowl last year? Michigan is in the Big 10. They won the Sugar Bowl. Yes, Michigan is overrated but they would mop the floor with Arkansas State.
Also, every team that played garbage was deep into their depth chart. How many gave up 34? Oregon's first team may be terrific. But their second and third team apparently are not.

What the hell does this have anything to do with my response??????

"Nevermind the fact that Oregon played Arkansas State and gave up 34 points"
Oregon was highly impressive. That game was 50 to 10 at the half and that is way more telling than the final score. I'm not saying Oregon is a great defensive team, but they played backups and went straight vanilla on offense in the second half. This gave ASU plenty of chances to score in the second half. If UO stays on the throttle, they win about 80 to 21.

I don't give a shite about Oregon, they've had their chance and lost 3 times in a row in big games...but whoever said (iPhone, sorry) Millen probably wanted to draft all their receivers, that was funny sir

And what exactly does that prove? They still played Arkansas State.
The point of this thread wasn't to say Oregon is not good. The point of this thread was to say Matt Millen is an idiot. Anyone that knows anything about football knows Alabama had the most dominating performance last week and looked the most impressive.
Last year when LSU beat Oregon the first week, the talking heads were raving about it, just like they are Alabama, because they beat a ranked opponent and did it very convincingly.
