When did the Celtics join the NCAA?

But yes, they won 8 NBA championships in a row during the Auerbach years.

there is very little good talent in women's basketball and it's pretty much getting funneled into one school.
Only 12 WNBA players are from UCONN

And players were ineligible to play freshman year, right?

This is correct, not sure about the rest though. I think invites still went out to non conference champs.

The best thing that happened to Geno at UConn was Pat Summit's decline.

Don't you think his rise in the 90s came directly at her expense? Without UCONN Summit would have won a bunch more NCs IMO.

that's very surprising. You would figure they'd have a huge percentage of the league.

If you are talking in a decade, you'd have to say UCONN bball, UCLA men's bball, Arkansas Track, OSU wrestling maybe.

From Wikipedia

quote:

Prior to 1975, only one team per conference could be in the NCAA tournament. However, after several highly ranked teams in the country were denied entrance into the tournament (e.g., South Carolina, which was 14-0 in conference play during 1970, Southern Cal, which was ranked #2 in the nation during 1971, and Maryland, which was ranked #3 in the nation in 1974), the NCAA began to place at-large teams in the tournament, instead of just conference champions.

Also, the tournament was 22 to 25 teams until 1975.

That's not an NCAA sport.

You look at the roster, Geno is getting the pick of the nation. Girls are coming from sunny california to play in the snow.

Same thing with Wooden. He had a bigger advantage though. He almost had a monopoly on the best Black basketball players in the nation.
