Reading that old thread makes me nostalgic. I used to savagely argue politics with Baloo and then simultaneously agree with his hockey analysis and favorite players etc. Back in like circa 2005-2007 there were maybe 20 hockey fans on the site and the threads would just be no-nothing insults from football-only guys.
As an Avs fan from 96 (not 95 because I didn't watch them until like February 96) the Stanley Cup run of this year is a top 5 sports moment. I was in Thailand and watched thhe Cup Finals on my computer at 7 am and it just popped for me in a way that is hard to describe. More than a few tears were shed. Hockey is true love, boys. It is like SEC football, it just means so much when your team lifts that Cup.

I've never watched hockey, but if I had to choose, I'd go Red Wings. Was in Detroit over the winter and many brewpubs I visited had their banner up.

Become a Coyotes fan. They need all the fans they can get. And they have really awesome jerseys.

Louisiana boys, those thieving bastards in Dallas stole the North Star franchise from Minnesota so frick them.
With so many games on ESPN,ESPN+, and TNT pick any team you want. I'd think all you oil field baws would jump right on the Oilers.
There are a few junior hockey franchises in LA. Shreveport Mudbugs are an NAHL team. Those players will be heading off to D1 and D3 hockey from there so you could be watching some players that play big time college hockey and maybe even make the NHL.

If you want to be perpetually disappointed you can follow my Sabres.
The Minnesota Wild have the best logo. Young and fast team that plays loose....
Panthers have been surging recently and are fun.
The avalanche are unstoppable.
Golden knights are doing well and are new.
You can cheer for the coyotes to suck. Tillman Fertita is trying to buy and nhl team for Houston.
If you want and original six team I'd go redwings.

Fuk the Avs. Hated them ever since that pos Claude Lemieux boarded Kris Draper.
Darren McCarty whipping Lemieux’s arse the following year and the concurrent goalie fight is quite possibly the best hockey fight of all time.

Do it.
My wife and I happened to be in Vegas during their inaugural season and went watch them play the lightning. They happened to be the #1 and #2 teams in the league. Vegas won on a goal with 4 seconds left. Incredible atmosphere been hooked since.
They have been rolling to start this season.
Its a great time to be a hockey fan. Biloxi just got a team, BR is getting a team. The FPHL is trying to expand. Should get more folks in the south interested in hockey

ESPN+ plays hockey games nearly every night. Just start watching and find a team you like. I watch hockey about 4 nights a week it’s my favorite sport

I never watched as a kid, but I moved somewhere with a team and I have to say the games are awesome.
I live in Raleigh so I'm a Canes fan. I'd say just watch some games and see what team appeals to you.
Just don't be lame and pick a team whose fans are full of themselves like any of the Original Six teams (Bruins, Rangers, Black Hawks, Red Wings, Maple Leafs or Canadiens). They have enough fans.

Born and raised Louisiana but mom from Pittsburgh. So I’m a pens fan. Mascot is hilarious. That said, they are old and suck.
Pick a newish team. Get in on ground floor. Vegas. Seattle.
Went to NASHVILLE game. They had country music live acts at intermission. Always entertaining.
Can’t go wrong picking a logo or colors you like.
Don’t bandwagon a good team. Odds are, they will suck in 5 years.

All true virile high-testosterone Americans are Avalanche fans. And last year was our moment and we are set up for a nice 4-5 year run. Also, we have Cale Makar, the best defenseman I have ever seen (fight me). Communists and pederasts and Communist pederasts pull for the Red Wings.
This is quite literally the worst take I’ve ever read. The Avalanche are a trash organization, but Cale Makar is very good. If you root for them you’re basically letting everyone know you suck at life. The Red Wings are the good guys of the league, but are rebuilding right now, so if you’re looking for a winner, you might want to go elsewhere because it’ll be a couple more years before they are contenders. Having some of the best young players in the league in Mo Seider and Lucas Raymond among others is a great start.
