The Golden State Warriors announced that forward Andre Iguodala will miss Thursday’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals with the left leg bruise that cost him the final four games of the Western Conference finals.

Iguodala, who won 2015 Finals MVP honors for his work opposite Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, was evaluated by team doctors on Tuesday. He will be reevaluated before Sunday’s Game 2.

“The evaluation indicated that Iguodala is making progress,” a statement said. “However, the pain that accompanies the bone bruise persists, as does inflammation of the nerve surrounding the left knee.”

LeBron has played most of his minutes with Iguodala on the floor each of the last three Finals. But LeBron also played enough without Iguodala to build a sample (65, 69 and 89 minutes).

In each of the last three Finals, the Cavaliers’ net rating (point difference per 100 possessions) has been excellent with LeBron on the floor and Iguodala off and bad-to-terrible with both on:

Seems like the most likely candidate to fill in Iggy's absence is Jordan Bell.

Bron has averaged 35 points, 12 boards, and 10 assists against the Dubs. He has been eating.

Is Andre Iguodala really the LeBron stopper?

No. Nobody is the LeBron stopper.

Iguodala earned his reputation as a LeBron slower in the 2015 Finals, when he helped hold the four-time MVP to 38 percent shooting in their 209 shared minutes, even as LeBron averaged 36 points, 13 rebounds and nine assists in a virtuosic performance.

quote:

Despite similar production and better shooting percentages in Cleveland’s 2016 Finals win, James still finished a minus-13 in the 223 minutes he played opposite Iguodala.

quote:

There is enough evidence to argue either way about Iguodala’s defensive prowess against LeBron, but there is also this undeniable evidence: In the 555 minutes LeBron and Iguodala shared the floor in the past three Finals meetings, the Warriors outscored the Cavaliers by 102 points, and in the 223 minutes LeBron was on the floor with Iguodala on the bench, Cleveland outscored Golden State by 96 points.

So, yeah, not having Iguodala on the court isn’t welcome news for the Warriors.

Can we see who was on the floor during these times for GS?

ETA

This is my point on plus/minus. It is highly dependant on who else trots in and out with you

Here is GS plus minus rankings for the 2016 finals

1 Leandro Barbosa +38
2 Draymond Green +23
3 Andre Iguodala +19
4 Shaun Livingston +13
5 Brandon Rush +11
6 Marreese Speights +6
7 Anderson Varejao +5
8 Ian Clark +1
9 James Michael McAdoo -4
10 Stephen Curry -7
11 Festus Ezeli -25
12 Andrew Bogut -25
13 Harrison Barnes -32
14 Klay Thompson -43

I def think Iggys defense helps on LeBron for sure, but +/- is not necessarily the best way to see that

Are you sure?

I didn't think Lebron could handle playing against West teams.

Forgive my ignorance, but were this many injuries back in the 80s and 90s? It seems that rarely do you have a playoff series without one of the starters missing a game or 2.
Maybe they just have to incorporate some "real" injuries these days to make us believe all of the flopping is real.

Had a MSB Poster the other day who told me Kawhi basically shut down LEbron in those Finals. I posted those stats, and he stuck to his guns on the shut down comment.

Don't recall who it was.

Magic got the HIV and missed 4 seasons

MJ got injured also and missed pretty much an entire season in 86

Bird basically was good for 20 games a year once he turned the ripe old age of 32

So yes is your answer

That was all season ending stuff. I'm talking missing semifinal and finals series for bruises, sprains, etc. But yeah, HIV is the same thing.
You just don't hear much of "this team would have won had so and so not been hurt" from those teams back then. But again, I'm not really a basketball fan so just making an observation.
