You are GM can make a team to win just one game. There’s no game the next day so everyone is available.
Eligibility requirements
Must played majority of career in NL
Must have played within last 50 years
Must have at least 2 LHP
Must have a Closer
Must have 25 man roster
Pitchers:
Kevin Brown
Bob Gibson
Steve Carlton
John Franco
Trevor Hoffman
Tom Seaver
Lee Smith
Greg Maddux
Juan Marichal
Curt Schilling
Bruce Sutter
Billy Wagner
Infielders
Mike Schmidt
Ozzie Smith
Joe Morgan
Willie McCovey
Pete Rose
Albert Pujols
Outfielders
Willie Mays
Hank Aaron
Barry Bonds
Tony Gwynn
Billy Williams
Catchers
Johnny Bench
Yadier Molina
My starting lineup would be this
1. Morgan 4
2. Aaron 9
3. Bonds 7
4. Mays 8
5. McCovey 3
6. Schmidt 5
7. Bench 8
8. Smith 6
9. Gibson 1

Pedro Martinez pitched the majority of his career in the NL.
Your list is shite without Pedro.
C Johnny Bench
1b Albert Pujols
2b Joe Morgan
3b Mike Schmidt
SS Barry Larkin
LF Barry Bonds
CF Willie Mays
RF Hank Aaron
SP: Pedro Martinez
Relievers: John Franco, Bruce Sutter, Lee Smith, Goose Gossage, Bill Wagner
Closer: Trevor Hoffman

Your opinion. But I don’t need Pedro I’ve got a staff that I want.

Peak Pedro was better than every single pitcher on your staff. It seems pretty dumb to leave him off.

Who needs Pedro when you have Kevin brown who actually played more in the AL then the NL lol
Posted on 5/3/18 at 11:24 am to Lester Earl
Lol exactly. Follow your own criterion right? I left off Randy Johnson who basically split between NL and AL.
Posted on 5/3/18 at 11:25 am to Lester Earl
Brown split time I believe. I thought he went
San Diego
LA
Miami
with only one stint in AL

No I didn’t add Johnson because I had my Lefty starter in Carlton and didn’t want him. I added Franco instead because of wanting 2nd left handed with Wagner in Pen
Also using Gibson as my Starter I have what many consider to be the best athlete of his playing days in the lineup.

He played like 7-8 seasons with the Rangers and then ended his career with NYY.

If you have to pick a team to win you a game, I feel like you have to include Smoltz and Bumgarner. They're two of the best postseason starting pitchers ever along with Gibson and Schilling.
Posted on 5/3/18 at 11:37 am to Bench McElroy
Smoltz and Bumgardner are great choices but who then do you take off? I guess you can take Sutter off for Smoltz.

Pedro starting
Bob Gibson for sure
Nolan Ryan in case there's a kerfuffle
Smoltz in relief
Aroldis Chapman to throw gas
Trevor Hoffman to close it out
Jose Lima for comedic relief
Clayton Kershaw as LHP 1
Madison Bumgarner as LHP 2
1. Lou Brock RF
2. Pete Rose 2B
3. Barry Bonds LF
4. Willie Mays CF
5. Albert Pujols 1B
6. Mike Schmidt 3B
7. Johnny Bench C
8. Ozzie Smith SS
9. Pitcher's spot
Bench:
Hank Aaron
Vlad Guerrero
Craig Biggio
Juan Pierre (pinch runner, duh)
Mike Piazza
The last three guys could just be whomever. I'm not going to need them. I guess Joe Morgan, Jeff Bagwell because why not, and of course Chuckie Carr.

Aaron should be clean up. Unless we are talking post steroids Bonds. Then him, but I'm putting either Bonds or Aaron as clean up over mays.

Brown pitched 8 seasons with Tex & 2 more with the Yanks
He has 50 more IP as an AL pitcher

Pujols wpuld start over mccovey.pujols is one of the top. 10 players of all Time. I would take Clemente over Billy Williams.

The 50 year rule reads like its designed to specifically exclude Koufax.
Posted on 5/3/18 at 1:18 pm to BoardReader
No matter the criterion, Koufax and Pedro, at their peaks, are probably the 2 best pitchers ever.
Posted on 5/3/18 at 1:56 pm to sms151t
If I am picking a starting pitcher for the playoffs it would not be Maddox. He is average in the post season. Smoltz was the Braves ace in the playoffs
Posted on 5/3/18 at 2:00 pm to sms151t
I’d have Smoltz on the squad bc of his versatility. Starter, long relief, or closer.
I’d also have Sandberg. Simply bc I like Ryno
