Please identify the NBA player(s) who should be ranked above him.

TIA.

Maybe Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain.

But I still think M.J. wins it hands down!

I'll start a list of candidates.

Russell
Wilt
Kareem
Magic
Bird
Shaq
Kobe
Oscar
Pistol
Cousey
Pettit
West

I think only the big men have a any chance at all b/c it would be hard to make a direct comparison.

I vote MJ.

I am only 25 so i cant speak to players prior to the 90's. But michael jordan did more for the game than anyone else thats not debatable. But can we honestly say that he was better than everyone that ever played. I am not saying he isn't but how can we realistically make that call ?

No player was more dominant than Wilt, but you'd be hard pressed to find many people who wouldn't think Jordan was the best. What helped Jordan more than anything was the that he was the most commercialized athlete ever. If you didn't think or know he was a great player in the late 80's, Nike made sure you knew in the 90's.

Personally, my favorite was always Magic Johnson. He could play every position from PG to Center, and in fact did in the finals.

I think MJ's the best ever, but that statement isn't supportable at all. Bird and Magic did more for basketball, as they took it from a sport on tape delay to an international juggernaut. Wilt was the first "wow" player and Dr. J showed that basketball could be art. you can certainly debate all of those guys had more influence.

Dr. J, to me, is the most "important" player ever. Not the best, but there is no Jordan without him. He took basketball from the tight shorts, chest pass game to one of above the rim brilliance.

ok maybe it is debatable . But this backs up my earlier point i can only objectify post 90's basketball so it would be hard to dub mj the g.o.a.t.

The only non big men even in the running are Magic and retired Lebron. Their versatility just differentiates them and makes them so special. Jordan is still number one though.

I can see an argument for big men depending on philosophy.

This thread is useless. Only haters can say that he isn't the GOAT.

There is no other explanation for thinking he isn't the GOAT.
