If the unlimited transfer rule passes, why offer athletic scholarships?

Since amateur athletes can now be legally paid for their services with NIL… why can’t they

A) pay their own way like everyone else

B) get good grades in high school and earn an academic scholarship

C) forgo college all together and go straight to the pros

If they want to destroy college sports just get on with it

Any player receiving NIL money in excess of their tuition should be forced to pay tuition.

No more athletic scholarships for these types.

Leave the athletic scholarships for the student athletes who arent profiteering.

Most athletes aren't getting full rides, much like most college athletes aren't getting NIL money. Seems like you're also trying to ruin college sports

Typically the ones getting NIL (Football and basketball) are ALSO the ones getting a full scholarship.

Most still are for D1 because almost every single woman athlete plus all football and basketball scholarship players are full rides

That will be the majority

ETA: just looked it up and you are right. 200/575 athletes at lsu are gurnateed to be full ride athletes

So I would guess most are still partial

Women have to be in a full ride or walk on for everything besides track I think . You can’t split their scholarships for most sports

Because a scholarship is the one benefit the school can directly give to the athlete, and the tuition portion is tax free.

Sounds like someone who doesn’t know anything about nothing. If you think nil and athletic scholarships are a bad thing for college sports. Academic scholarship money is about 10x more than plentiful than D-1 sports annually .

Ok y’all do that.

While Alabama still pays for their scholarships.

Good luck recruiting.

This is highly annoying.

Especially seeing how baseball players have to play for 3 years before they’re draft eligible again and college coaches sometimes like to WEAR OUT pitchers who are already at risk of wear and tear/terrible injury at any moment.

But cool, the 14th beat women’s volleyball player at Miss State deserves a full ride over every male athlete

Title IX stuff. As a result, Softball and Women’s T&F get something like 20 or so full scholarships to divvy out while Baseball and Men’s T&F get something like 12.5. TONS of partials for those two men’s sports, which is why TOPS at a time before uncovered college fees was a way for LSU, Cajuns, etc to try to capitalize on some of those athletes, if they were smart enough, already getting free tuition so they only needed to cover books, meal plans with athletic scholarship dollars.

I mean…he’s really not wrong on principle. I agree with that take personally.

However, yeah, in this arms race of college football and men’s basketball, there’s not a single P5 program that’s going to be the first one to jump and take that stance.

If you aren’t getting a full ride, and aren’t getting NIL, then you are a student athlete. If you receive NIL and it covers the cost of schooling, they should be made to pay for school if they play sports. Without the sport, they wouldn’t receive NIL. College sports are being ruined by the ones that, transfer when things don’t go their way, and are others that it’s ok to not try to work for what you want.

Eliminate the paid for "tutors" for the athletes and require that 80% of their classes be in person as opposed to online if you want to go that route. Also all the little perks the " student" athlete gets as a result of the transfer they pay for or if not, taxable....and make it totally public.
