He's one of the best, but I'm not saying he's the best. I'm too young to know about boxing when it was at its peak like my dad. He just tells me about all these old time boxers who he claims are the best ever.
Sugar Ray Robinson was really really good.

More entertaining, but not the better fighter. Mayweather has all the talent of Jones, and he's technically sound to boot. Like, really really technically sound.

I was about to edit my post to add Roy Jones Jr. Even though he got knocked the frick out a couple times late in his career. I have always thought he was a better fighter than Money.

I just cannot give him a pass for not fighting the best fighters in his day. Many of the past greats have losses for doing this. I feel like Floyd ducked some fights.

The 1960's version of Clay/Ali is tough to discredit. He's in the conversation.
But he did get knocked down by Henry Cooper. I'll hold that against him.

But did he actually?

I cannot prove he did, but can you equally prove he did not?

The thing that Roy had was that he was just so goddamn quick. This made up for the fact that he was technically unsound. Not merely unorthodox...but technically unsound. I mean, the guy did't throw jabs. At all.
So onece he lost even a little bit of that quickness, he was done.

Yes, he did. Floyd constantly ducked fights.
Not only that, he's fighting at a time when boxing is at its weakest IN HISTORY.
Sugar Ray Robinson, Ali, Roy Jones were all easily better fighters in their prime.

Shouldn't have pussied out of the pacquio fight
This is why I can't rate him that high......

I'll speculate that his blood testing requests for Pacquiao were rooted in more than just speculation. He knew Pac was juicing.

You can't hold it against him that he was miles better than everybody else. This is actually an argument for him.

Not even the Pac fight. There are other contenders they he has ducked before, and if he doesn't retire I'm sure they'll be more.

and sorry my man, his resume DOES matter.
saying it doesnt is flat out asinine
No, it doesn't. There are two ways you cam compare athletes. You can compare career accomplishments, or you can simply look to how good they were. I thought that the "how good was he" part was implicit in the phrase "best pound-for-pound fighter". Otherwise, I would have set it up as an Alien Test.

His adamant attempt in order to evade Pacquiao will forever be a stain that I certainly cannot overlook. When you beat your girlfriend up in order to be that committed to dodging a fight, I can't ignore that.

Why does Mayweather get painted as the bad guy in that situation? The guy has demanded Olympic style drug testing for all of his fights. Pac wouldn't go for it because he was pumped full of PEDs, and this constitutes Mayweather ducking Pac?

There is even accounts of Mayweather not even undergoing the same Olympic style testing himself.
