Just thinking if my Reds team had 16 total games I wouldn't miss one unless they were out of playoff race. Each game would be intense and the total time of game wouldn't matter..
It's convenient that NFL is most popular when it only lets us see our teams once a week.

Is it the sport or the waiting that makes the heart grow fonder?

The wait makes it special. Also NFL games are typical close(r) for much of the game unless another absolutely out lasses another or the losing team is just having a bad day.

Also for the NFL (and much like MLB) 2/3 of the league feels like they should be in playoffs that season. For the NBA, the playoffs though intense, mentally you can't get too excited if you're the Jazz and facing the Warriors next round or the Hawks and LeBron is looming. Flacco won a Super Bowl crying out loud. NFL is much more rewarding as a fan.

And you would finish the season saying...man, I wish my best pitcher could have gone out there more than twice.

But you're right - ticket prices for games would be insane - especially for best pitcher.

But it would make message boards insane.

Imagine the bitching at the major league level like you get at the CWS level.

Every game would be we got robbed...and bias...and our pitcher was hurt for his other game apart from his 1 and only first game...

And then you'd have people bitching that their clean-up hitter got into a hitting slump at game 10 and couldn't get out of it by game 16.

If it was once a week, your "ace" would start every game like a QB

Meh, it's a Union.

People need jobs.

No way MLB collective bargaining agrees to downsizing pitching jobs by 90%.

Yeah, we're going to make the Ace our pitcher and nobody else has a job but reliever and clipboard guy.

One game a week means you wouldn't need multiple starters so your best pitcher would pitch every game.

This is a hypothetical that will get 50 downvotes... im not worried about the labor union in this unrealistic scenario

Union would never allow one guy.

So this isn't really a hypothetical.

Lets live in a land where commissioners and lawyers don't exist.

You could shorten the baseball season but you couldn't alter the job structure. That's a no-no in all business dealings forever in American sports.

So if you truly are advocating one guy pitches the entire season...

Your premise is dead on arrival.

Fun to think about...

Offense would be way down with basically only the top 100 pitchers in the world seeing any significant innings. It would definitely shorten games.

Payroll would decrease significantly with 74 less home games. A pitcher like kershaw would probably make 50% of a teams salary.

Very little scoring if the 32 best pitchers in baseball pitched every game.

If the games were weekly, the same pitcher would pitch every game.

Seriously, dude.

Baseball is not meant to be played like that. 162 game grind. Its a fluky game where one game a week doesnt make sense. A really shitty team can beat a great team in baseball in a one game scenario. Its why I hate the WC games

If you had 16 games a season, that would be a Little League schedule.

And you think it sounds great like college football - but gearing up for a once a week football game and a baseball game ain't the same thing.

Know your sport.

Don't assume sports are same - don't assume less means more.

(And frankly football plays a small schedule out of necessity and not some grand foresight.)

it would make games closer... 3-1 would be a slugfest

which would increase tv ratings

or teams would truly Johnny Wholestaff it and run 5 closers out per game for one or two innings each
