re: If Alabama beats UGA, there’s no way possible for Oregon to make the playoff ahead of Bama

Mr. ReauxlTide222, that is a lucid, well thought-out, intelligent objection....Overruled.
By putting Oregon at #5 the committee is signaling that if they beat Washington tomorrow they are in the top 4.
Alabama (and the SEC) is in a unique spot here. I think the Pac 12 champ (even if 1 loss Oregon) AND a Big 12 Champ, Texas, is ahead of Alabama in the pecking order because of the head to head defeat. Likewise, I don't think this is a year it is a certainty Georgia can lose in the SECCG and still get in. If when the dust settles on Saturday night we have a 1 loss SEC champ (Alabama), 1 loss Pac 12 champ (Oregon) and 1 loss Big 12 champ (Texas), all of those teams will be ahead of 1 loss NOT conference champ Georgia.
This weekend is probably as close to an 8 team playoff as one can get under this current format. And it's not inconceivable at all that the SEC champ could be left out of the playoff if Alabama wins. They just picked the wrong team (Texas) to lose to at home.

What does Texas’ win over Bama have to do with putting Oregon over Bama?

Oregon avenged its only loss and is the only reason Washington isn't an undefeated playoff team.

Eye test Would Oregon have to beat Auburn on a Hail Mary
Not to mention LSU even with the worst defense in history was staying with them in the second half until their dirty player attacked our QB.
I hope UGA beats the piss out of Alabama, but either way, Bama has been mediocre this year and doesn’t deserve to get in.

Eye test matters and Alabama hasn't looked like a top 4 team at all this year.
So you'd have Michigan, FSU, Texas, Alabama? Because you aren't jumping a Texas team with the same record that beat you at your house.
So they leave out Pac 12 completely? Sorry bub.

Right? How on earth could we leave out the absolute worst P5 conference over the last decade that was so shitty it failed. The SEC still needs to prove they’re deserving of a seat at the table.

It's the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship, not the 2015-2023 College Football Playoff National Championship.

I was replying to the guy who was like “how could they leave the PAC out?”

I've heard 100 times how Texas has the best win in the country, which I always found curious because Washington beat a team ranked 3 spots higher.
Even with their win over Oregon, it wasn't until last week that Washington leaped FSU.
Committee screwed the rankings up from week 1 and just dug their heels in. They dont want "a pac 12 team" in the playoffs, they specifically want Oregon in.
The commissioner when asked about Oregon is literally citing stats. Bo Nix completion percentage, total offense and total defense ranking, never mind a deeper look into how those are accrued, like strength of schedule or average depth of target. They can't justify Oregon at 6 based on quality wins, so its just "well they looked really good against an (8-4) Oregon State team we have a lot of respect for" and "Bo Nix has a 78% completion percentage"
This committee is in waaaay over their heads. The chairman should never ever cite a fricking individual, on the surface statistic like completion percentage. Like how in the hell is that okay with college football fans
These fricking nerds don't know what they're talking about. If you're going to have a committee with inherent biases anyway, it needs to be a committee of "football guys"

I know, and you used "last decade" as a point.

What about the PAC this year suggests they are at least on the same level as the SEC?

The committee's rankings, which is all that really matters in the discussion.
