Ego might be a bit much but he knew he was great at it so he would swing at pitches that could've led to a walk numerous times.

At this time I was watching every Mariners game on TV which was at least 152. Not the man etc, just saying I saw it happen and it was mentioned on air.

His OBP should've been higher.

Rickey Henderson is probably the answer. Although Ty Cobb would arguably have been better if they had put him lead off instead of third (Cobb's MLB record batting average over 24 seasons was more than 80 points higher than Henderson's career average over 25 seasons)

Love that story too. Another story is the John Olerud story.

“When Henderson signed with Olerud's Mariners in 2000, he came up to Olerud and asked about the helmet the first baseman always wore in the field. After learning the reason -- Olerud suffered an aneurysm in college, and wore the helmet to protect his head -- Henderson said, "Man, I played with someone like that in New York."
And Olerud's response: "Yeah, Rickey, that was me."

My favorite Rickey Henderson story is he used to take the per diem envelopes he would get at the start of road trips and stick them in a shoebox. Whenever his kids did something, like bring home a good report card or do well in sports, he would break out the shoebox and tell ‘em to pick an envelope. So they were getting a couple hundred bucks cash

Rickey is the best but Ichiro is probably number two. Ichiro was all about contact so yeah these saberqueers hate him.

When Ichiro drops 28 bombs or steals 130 bags in a season or drops 28 and steals nearly 90 in the same season come talk to me. Or you know scores 146 runs or any of the dozens of things Ricky did that he didn’t or couldn’t do. At 39 years old Ricky scored over 100 runs and led the league with 66 steals. Ichiro was riding pine at 39 and never stole that many bases in his career.

For Ricky fans entertainment
