Tulane is a private school that is known only as Tulane.
Cajuns can have Louisiana. In due time (15-20 years), we can have a UF/FSU/Miami vibe going on in the state. That could be fun!

Yeah I feel it was more Nicholls State than ULL
Nicholls is like SCLSU, which is where the waterboy played.
The coach is from UL, where the waterboy was a waterboy.

Best 'know your place' post I've seen in a while. Congrats on that.

quote:The move to D1 was dumb to me. That's when the program basically collapsed. That's when I lost interest. John David Crow got NLU headed in the right direction. Pat Collins took them to the top of the old Southland conference and Division 1-AA. They had become a big fish in a little pond.
The majority of ULM alumni would still rather be called NLU. The name change of that and the Indians is part of the reason there's a lot of apathy in Monroe
Moving up to what's now known as FBS football, so they could play the big money games made them a loser with no real rivalries. Why should alumni and fans care about what they have become?
If we get a reset, where Power Five teams quit playing the Group of Five teams, some of the Group of Five conference teams will have nicer facilities that they may not be able to maintain.

Ehh. I don’t think anyone north of Mason Dixon line look at Lafayette at all.

I just realized UL Lafayette trying to be like University of Louisiana from The Waterboy?
Did they have to use the same name and same style logo from a fake school in a movie?
That could be, but I always thought that Coach O and Farmer Fran played by Blake Clark sounded the exact same. So if there were ever a movie about Coach O, Blake Clark is your man.

No doubt about it. Farmer Fran could be coach O’s dad or uncle in the movie.

No, you are wrong: in 1884 a legislative act was signed that reorganized the school into a private institution, named Tulane University of Louisiana. So it is now 137 years since Tulane gave up that name.
The facts behind Tulane's name
So tried of that idiotic trope being thrown out every time this subject is discussed.

The Cajuns live in the head of some of you guys.
They aren't a threat to LSU, quit worrying about them.
It'll be OK man.

I'm a USL grad who started at LSU and have two kids at LSU. One graduates this fall in ISDS and the other will be starting her Junior year in dietetics. I'm very confused about my place.

Ummmm, you have missed the point. Your statement was about UL knowing its place....not yours.

It’s the little ‘they’re no threat to us’ part that was condescending and makes sure everyone just stays in their lane.
And to hep you through all your ‘confusion’ I’ll give you some free advice: ‘dance with the one that brung you.’ You should be supporting the school that gave you an education, and that has a huge impact on the economy of the city you live in. Where your kids go to school determines who they pull for…..not who you should pull for.

Clearly, self deprecating humor escapes you.
What makes you think I don't support UL? UL is no threat to LSU. They have been competitive in baseball and very much so in softball but on the whole they really are not. And it is understandable, they don't have the tradition or the funding. That's why I don't get why so many LSU feel the need to belittle UL. It was not a stay in your lane comment, it was a "why do feel the need to be an arse" comment. Not directed at you. I think we can be fans of both schools. And I pull for any Louisiana school in the post season.
BTW, I earned what I got from UL. While I appreciate what they had (and have) to offer in terms of curriculum and instructors, they aren't doing charity work there, I had to pay for that.
I have and always will love LSU. I also will always support UL Lafayette. My choice of schools was dictated by my circumstance, that is why I switched after one year at LSU.
A bit of free advice, an adult can use whatever criteria they want to decide what teams they will pull for.

Oh, I fully understood your attempts at the humor thing.
And I have no idea if or how much you have supported your alma mater through the years, so why don’t you share that: how much UL apparel etc have you bought through the years? How many UL games have you attended? Ever bought season tickets? Ever given to,the RCAF?
And sure, everyone has a right to pull for who they want to. But again, to do the right thing would mean you support the school you graduated from and that has a huge impact on the city you live and work in.
I mean Authment did his best to kill support from folks just like you. I just wish he had not been so successful in doing it.
ETA: And lol….no state school is a running a charity, including that school that has your heart. In fact, no other school in the state has drained as much from the state coffers as lsu. They did so for over a century before they got to the point where they are. Bought and for off the back of every la citizen decade after decade.

We have overly sensitive people on our side too. Some sensitivity is justified, but other is yawnable shite.

I buy UL apparel almost as much as LSU apparel but not quite as much. I went to almost every USL home game in high school, Roy Henry years. Only been to handful of football games at UL since graduating. Only one in my student years, which were long since I wasn't always full time. I went to see the opposing QB play, Dante Culpepper. I regret that I didn't go to more but I worked near full time and Weekends were days I could work a full day. Honestly, the football gameday experience at UL was just not as fun as it was and still is for me at LSU.
Been to many more UL baseball games than LSU baseball games (Only been to one). I have contemplated season tickets to UL Baseball. Side note, Gunner Leger's grandparents lived across the street from me until just a couple of years ago, I remember Gunner as young boy visiting his mom's parents. They brought my son a pennant from the trip to the little league world series that Gunner's team from LC went to.
Basketball is about even for me. Softball is more UL Lafayette.
I have never given to RCAF. I have and do give to the University from time to time. I have LSU season tickets so TAF does get some of my money. I have also given to LSU. That has stopped now though, I am not enamored with how they did things during the initial COVID response in terms of housing. Felt taken advantage of and have informed them that they will not be getting any more than my children's tuition and fees and TAF required for my tickets from this point on.

Truer words were never spoken. He is also why UL was so far behind the curve athletically for the second largest University in the state. He was not shy about his disdain for modern collegiate athletics. As I understand it, he would not let an RCAF type organization be formed while he was president. I am glad they did get one and there has really been amazing progress in what has been done with the athletics department.

I have two kids there, they have a lot of my money as well, LOL.

I would expect that, they are the flagship university of the state as well as an agricultural university in a state with a great deal of agriculture. They have also been a full fledged university longer than any other. But ultimately, most public Universities now seem as much like a money grab as an educational facility. Or maybe I'm just jaded LOL.
Geaux Tigers and Geaux Cajuns

BTW 89 grad in Mechanical Engineering. What about you?

People take some things way too seriously. And I am on both sides I'd say tough line to straddle sometimes LOL.

I have tons of friends that are casual UL fans and big LSU fans, some that never went to LSU. I can’t hold it against them that the years we went to school they’d prefer to watch LSU play Auburn on a Saturday night instead of staying in town to watch UL play schools like FAU/FIU/North Texas/MTSU/etc.
I think a lot of the sensitivity on our side is dealing with sitting in a non-sold out stadium against lesser-known teams (to casual college football fans), while people we know cross the basin. But it doesn’t bother me because I get it. If the Cajuns can keep winning 10+ games each season, we’ll get there. If we can’t sustain that level of success after Napier moves on, well that’ll suck.
Also, if the SBC keeps getting stronger as a conference, that’ll make home games more appealing. I know a lot of casual Cajun fans will be looking forward to a Coastal/App State coming to town than what we had coming in-conference in the past.
