NASCAR fricked up when they tried to go national. It is a niche sport and always has been. Their fans are from the South. People in the north and the west will never be NASCAR fans no matter how much they want them to.

It was getting casual fans outside the south and had no problem gettting great attendance at those tracks. What started the decline in nascar was 2004 car of tomorrow and the chase. The ratings started declining in 2006 and since then it hasn’t recovered. The casual fans outside the south left and the die hard fans that watched every week don’t care about it anymore. My dad was a die hard nascar fan and watched a shite ton of nascar for over 20 years and hasn’t watched a race since like 7 years. Nascar has to be one of the worst run companies in the past 15 years.

NASCAR has demonstrated since 2007 and the advent of the COT that it is run mostly by oblivious idiots. Yet, some of those “decision makers” stay around and are allowed to keep making stupid decisions. It is asinine to remove a staple race like the Firecraker/Pepsi/Coke Zero 400 away from July 4th weekend. Worse yet, the Brickyard 400 at Indy (one of the most boring races every year) will take the July 4th slot. I guess they think the fans will like this? Heck, they are trying to generate “excitement” by running both Pocono races as a double-header in one weekend. It’s all so gimmicky.

NASCAR also continues to make operating a team and building cars so expensive that, given the lack of full-time major sponsors, fewer cars show up each year. There have been multiple Cup Series races this season with less than 40 cars entered in the event.

Lots of changes needed

1. New car design to get away from the COT
2. Get rid of some 1.5’s and pick up some shorter tracks.

3. Change up the format as people aren’t going to spend hours on end watching races anymore.

I’ve always suggested a dirt track format. Heat Races, then a shortened A Main. Five 40 Mile heats, 30 minute intermission and a 100 mile A main. Prevent a ton of down time and get it done quickly.

4. Eliminate the points chase and go back to the way it was.

It’s going to take some big swings to save the sport.

Used to watch NASCAR. I will say the point I quite watching regularly was the Advent if the COT.

Got into the sport watching the truck race replays on Sunday night.

The number 1 problem is that NASCAR isn't a league or association like MLB or the NFL. It's company owned and run by the France family. There are no outside voices or counter arguments.

My buddies company sponsors a car in Indy racing. He told me the cost for the Indy sponsorship deal was $1.2M and the same deal with NASCAR was $12M! His company went with Indy racing

Nascar isn’t a sport

It's more of a sport than golfing is. In sporting events head to head combat usually results in injuries of one man by the other man. Golf and tennis cannot make that claim. Football, basketball, baseball and auto racing can.

I haven't watched a single race this year. I sat down last night to watch Daytona and it's rained out. All of these new rules are idiotic. Most of the drivers left are pussies. NASCAR is a shadow if itself now.

That’s because IndyCar isn’t as popular as NASCAR, so less eyes = cheaper sponsorships.

There was a time when IndyCar/USAC/ CART was the top level of American racing. The split and NASCAR’s rise killed that. Now IndyCar has a great product, and NASCAR’s sucks. Hopefully people who just want to see good racing flip on over from NASCAR and see the light

The problem with nascar is that they dont have any roofs for these tracks. That's two rain delayed races in a row already for NBC. Maybe put a roof on the track and people won't have to worry about the rain or delays.

NASCAR used to have real men race cars like Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison. Then Dale Earnhardt showed up. Then you had the 90’s rush of young and old.

There was usually a fist fight or at least a public cussing of the other driver after a race.

It was more organic in that it was a good blend of rich, poor, decent and even the little trashier folk. It was good old fun and heckling in the stands at other fans. It used to be Ford folks vs Chevy folks.

That was then.

Now it’s the same car, with Toyota’s of all things in the mix. Huge corporate sponsors scared to death that someone disgraced their product with lewd acts or violence.

The men who once graced the track are dead or retired, and the once young guns who would have been the men of today have left to be announcers.

So what we have are essentially teenage boys driving multi million dollar cars that are controlled by corporate America.

Also NBC sucks arse.

Haven’t watched NASCAR in a long while.

The chase, the stages, the bizarre points system are all mind boggling. They’ve tried to make every single moment matter and as a result nothing does. Sometimes the racing is good and sometimes it’s not, but how you win the championship should make sense, and NASCAR now has made winning a single race confusing.

It blew me away when Roger Penske said it was more expensive to run his NASCAR team than his IndyCar team. That didn't seem right. Apparently IndyCar has learned how to be extremely efficient in order to survive.
