Because Baylor has a long history of success.

And Houston isn't basically doing exactly what TCU was doing a few years ago.

Baylor has a 5 year history of success. That does not = "long".

The bluebloods of Texas didn't want the Cougs in the old SWC, either. Goes back to Houston's prior rep of being an outlaw team, which was hilarious considering the outlaws at A&M, SMU, etc. But Houston makes a lot more sense than either Temple or Tulane.....TULANE ...and both those teams made the first cut apparently. Tulane has a 30+ seat stadium that is usually half filled with visiting fans. Temple? Not sure what it offers.

Don't you wish you still had Ark and Missouri?

Who is "you". Ark and MO were never in the same conference.

Arkansas was part of the SWC, Missouri in the Big12.

Not at the same time, of course.

There are, of course two really good reasons why UH won't be getting in to the Big 12:
1. Texas owns the conference
2. Bleachergate

Ah, I'm following now.

I wish the Big 12 still had Ark and MO.

As an outsider, I just cannot for the life of me understand why there is opposition to BYU.

It is the best university, probably by a long shot, of the serious candidates (excepting Rice and Tulane here). It has a pretty good-sized, national, and growing fanbase. It has a wealthy and dedicated alumni base willing to put its money where its mouth is. They'd be competitive right away in just about every sport, and they have a solid football history. It's a great place to visit.

Is it the Mormon thing?

No matter - should have taken Louisville when they had the chance. Boren saw that coming, and the conference balked.

I said the same thing. Go back and follow the thread and you will see what I mean.

Someone said "do you wish you still had ARk and MO."
I made the point they were never in the same conference.

What they meant is that the Big 12 is really a combo of the SWC and the Big 8, so Ark and MO would have been in the Big 12. That is what I meant as well.

You mean, no one wants to lose Houston-area recruiting to a would-be local Big 12 team.

I completely agree with BYU. Wealthy alums, and a church that will continue to grow.

UL and Cincy would've been solid additions.
