Yeah, but Haskins’s biggest skill weakness (downfield accuracy) is one of Fields’s biggest strengths. Not to mention, it appears Haskins biggest problem overall (regardless of skill) is his attitude, work ethic, and just overall common sense (the partying video), a recipe for disaster for anyone. So if Fields avoids that recipe, he should be a lot more successful, especially since he’s got better tools.
Okay that’s fine and all
But at first your only reasoning behind “he’s good” is because he’s a first round draft pick
There’s plenty of Busts in the first round
Haskins was one of them
And people here believe Fields will as well

Was he like this while at OSU???????

Please explain the Northwestern game......

No play better symbolized this than when Fields didn’t even recognize we were down a player on a crucial third down.
You play for Bama?

I don’t think he’ll be very good in the NFL. Maybe mid to late first rounder, but not top 5. I don’t see him being better than Desean Watson or Lamar Jackson ( didn’t think Lamar would be good either though).

Fields throws a fantastic deep ball and is pretty accurate. To say he isn’t good is foolish. I think he could be really good in the pros. He isn’t a one read guy and doesn’t bank on his feet to best defenses.
There game plan went out the window when Sherman got hurt. Everything they successfully did offensively was on him last night.
Bama’s defense isn’t 2011 but they are still freaks, tOSU got predictable and bama ate.
Ohio state had to play a perfect game on offense just to hang in there because bama was naming the score against their cheese of a defense

His game has nothing in common with lamer Jackson besides being black. Plus you are talk about guys that can be MVP level QB
I was super high on Watson coming out, rare times I am right about this, so I was pumped when the Texans drafted him. I think Watson is pretty fair comparison but fields might have a better arm. Watson just didn’t lose in college.

He is good. You don’t destroy Clemson like that if you’re not “good”. I wouldn’t call him elite. But he is good.

He is. You can't watch that Clemson game and think he's not that good. And tough as shite.

Fields is much much better than Fromm could ever dream of being
Neither will be anything more than a clipboard holder so no matter.
Fields will get paid, and then crash and burn like every other OSU qb.

He’s in a system that likely isn’t going to get him NFL ready from the start. There is a reason Haskins sucks in the NFL despite his tremendous physical talent. He played in a system that didn’t develop him and was easy. He was going to need to put a ton of work in to be a good QB in the NFL unlike a lot of others.
Herbert and Burrow both learned to pay the position much better and put in the work. Tua is coming off an injury and so it’s hard to tell, but in reality he is going to have to work super hard to learn to play QB in the NFL.
As for Fields, no doubt he is a great talent, has some great touch in long throws and could be great. He’s going to have to sit and learn while putting in a ton of work to succeed at a high level. I think he can do it, but he’s not a safe bet for a team without stability at the position.

Then Northwestern game showed huge flaws for him. With Olave out and against a defense that was pretty good he struggled. He can’t make reads quickly and when the first option want there, the play was DOA.
Sermon bested in that game and won it for them.
Against Clemson, their weakness all year has been at DB and with their best safety out by of targeting in the first half, all the youth and inexperience helped Fields.
This wasn’t your typical Clemson defense either. Last year going into the championship game, they were giving up only 11.5 ppg and finished #3. This year they gave up over 20 ppg and were #18.

NFL scouts must be OSU homers too since he’s a 1st Round grade for draft pick.

He has the physical tools. He has a few mechanical things teams will look to refine.
His maturity and ability to get through progressions will determine his pro fate. Given that he's had reasonable coaching at OSU, and hasn't made as much progress as you'd hope, it isn't a given that he will be able to develop in those ways. Unless, of course, you believe he was poorly coached at OSU, and hasn't been given those opportunities to grow.
The weakenesses were especially noticable in his read progressions against Northwestern in the B10 Title Game-- and Pat Fitzgerald's disciplined defenses. In each of their last 4 matchups, OSU has clearly outmanned the Wildcats across the board-- two of those, though, were Fields starts. In one he was able to exploit the mismatches early and dominate with better talent-- but in the later he struggled. Traditionally, the OSU offense has simply run roughshod over Northwestern, dating back through Haskins and before, so some view it as a warning sign that he may lack the polish needed.
I tend to think Fields will struggle early, until the pro game and the disciplined defenses he will face will force him to mature. He has all the tools you want, but not the mature understanding of the ins and outs of the game you want. If he doesn't develop in a year or two, he'll end up a backup somewhere.

I had the same conclusion the few times that I saw him play, then that Clemson game he went off.
By far the best I'd ever seen him play, not even close. Then the Bama game he kinda looked like the Fields I'd seen all the other times....pretty inaccurate and honestly pretty meh...at least given his reputation.
