After the way Tennessee disrespected LSU the week of that SECCG they have no one to blame but themselves that this game didn't happen

Still one of the most satisfying wins I've ever seen.

However, UT was the 2nd best team that year.

God this team is so underrated...

They Whipped the team that destroyed Nebraska just three weeks before. (and then Nebraska got destroyed again by Miami.)

Ducks stomping of Colorado 38-16 in the Fiesta quieted the Buffs cries they should be playing Miami in the Natty.

Ducks were clearly the 2nd best and deserving a shot at the title...that's the real hypo.

All the damn TN people in my family started buying up tickets and reservations to Pasadena the week of the game. Instead, it was back to the Citrus where they belonged.

He just worded it poorly. He's saying that Tennessee, which had just lost to an LSU team led by a freshman quarterback (who had just made a nice little detour in minor league baseball), would have been facing arguably the most talented team in CFB history.

Miami and it isn't close

and that game in the Georgia dome was by far the most fun I have ever had at a big game and that includes both national title games.

I honestly think Florida was the only team that year capable of keeping it within 20 points against Miami because they were so explosive offensively.

Miami came close to losing twice in 2001. First time was against Boston College. Miami had a 12-7 lead with 33 seconds in the game. Boston College had driven the field and had 1st & Goal at the 9 yard line. BC's QB stepped back to throw a quick slant. A fluke ricochet later and Miami gets it into the end zone to win the game 18-7.

They also struggled against Virginia Tech, winning 26-24. Miami was uber talented but was by no means unbeatable. They were seen as one of the best teams in the last 10 years in their day but it wasn't until about 4 or 5 years AFTER that '01 season that their legend really started to grow due to all the talent they put into the NFL.

and tennessee did lose twice. I know you were quoting someone talking about UF, I'm just tying it back to the OP. This isn't even close, miami would kill them.

I wasn't arguing they wouldn't. I was simply saying that, while Miami was a great team, they are a little over hyped. Their rout of an unworthy Nebraska team in the Rose Bowl cemented their greatness.

I'll agree they are SLIGHTLY overhyped, and I remember that VT game that they were on the verge of losing before like a 90 yard fumble and return for TD. But they were still head and shoulders the best team that year. UT doesn't even come to mind when talking about the best teams that year, but maybe it's because we beat them with a very average team. Then they lost to LSU with a backup QB. Yeah beating UF was nice, but I mean people (or maybe I should say 3 or 4 UT fans) point to that 1 single win for them being in the discussion for the best that year.

Miami also destroyed Syracuse 59-0 and Washington 65-7. Both teams ended up finishing in the AP top 20 that year.

So which of the recent Bama teams would beat '01 Miami?

The Truth.

The Tennessee fan is clearly trolling and apparently started this thread on the cesspool known as the SECRant.

True enough. But Washington finished the season 8-4 and that game against the Huskies was a revenge game. Washington kept Miami from going to the big dance the previous year.
