re: How would you rank the top 5 head coaching jobs in college football?

This is strictly NIL era
1. Ohio State - best job in college football at the current moment, alumni support, NIL support, team prestige, arguably the best coaching + recruiting staff
2. Texas Could be #1 if they didn't have such a delusional fanbase, specifically their alumni association putting unnecessary pressure on coaches.
3. Oregon - Oregon Phil Knights, Nike pockets, beautiful place to live and recruits seem to fall in love with the area when they visit, no pressure of having won titles yet but a fanbase that still wants one.
4. Georgia- SEC, strong NIL backing, recruiting footprint is near perfect with basically their pick of players in the region, Mark Richt was the coach for 15 years before Kirby, so there is a willingness to let a coach stumble and get back to the top if they have a couple bad seasons.
5. Texas A&M - should be in front of Texas with their willingness to spend and the recruiting footprint they've cultivated but can't help shitting the bed, delusional fanbase with no titles so desperation is a stinky cologne and will give a coach alot of leeway to get things done if they have a a couple bad seasons.
Notre Dame
Michigan
Alabama
Texas Tech or BYU - hear me out, oil backing one, church backing the other, so NIL recruiting advantage + seemingly a straight path to the CFP if they take care of business against Big 12 teams who don't have those advantages.

I don't see how Notre Dame isn't a Tier I job.
They have their own national TV contract and unlimited money.
They have a national recruiting reach.
They have an inside line on any Catholic kid (there are approximately 53,000,000 - 72,000,000 Catholics in our country).
There is a reason Kelly left Notre Dame for LSU.

Yup, they are similar to Stanford in what players they’ll bring in

Notre Dame was a top 5 job in the 80's early 90s. Not anymore. Probably around 10ish

Ohio St.
Texas/Texas A&M
Oregon
UGA/Bama/LSU
It's purely about ability to acquire talent in this current landscape. It could also change on a dime with one billionaire willing to go for it, like Oregon does now.

Anyone not including LSU in a top 5 simply doesn’t know ball.

This must be one of those AI hallucinations I keep hearing about

Ohio St and Texas are 1 and 2 in no order.
Texas got the cash/history but harder path.
Bama/Georgia/LSU are all tied IMO
I wouldnt argue with any of those over the other 2 but any one argument could have holes picked in it.
I wouldnt see a UGA coach leaving for LSU or an LSU coach leaving for Bama.
In fact my main argument for Bama would probably be vehemently argued against by Bama fans lol

Michigan will be a big player in the NIL era, especially if Larry Ellison chips in from time to time

Alabama is the top job. They were recruiting in the high teens before Saban got there. He just skewed the view of the job so much over his tenure. They don't have the $$ that schools like Oh State, ND, Texas, and even Florida or Georgia does, and his recruiting footprint. While incredible, is not as good as Georgia or LSU's, or maybe even Florida.
In the current landscape, they're Baoacally a touch above Tennessee, but that's it. Car dealers ain't Phil Knight

Where is Texas A&M? They have wildly deep pockets that make them as elite as any school in the country going forward.
History means very little now.

6 national titles plus consistency in playoff plus unmatched tradition under Saban
Having to coach in Saban's shadow makes it a less desirable job

Why is any job outside of Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee, or Florida considered a top tier job in the SEC?
I would think it about program money and location. Also there is no income tax in Texas, Tennessee, or Florida.
Even as an LSU fan I don’t understand the appeal of LSU. Louisiana doesn’t have the most money, the politics suck, the weather sucks, and the area is not nearly as nice as other places.

Texas - still feels independent, just like the State, its own Country in a CFB landscape that is now region-less.
Ohio State - all-in NIL, don't care how much to buy titles, huge fanbase, Middle of the Country, running away with the Big10.
SEC - rest of 'em all feel jumbled together now that Saban is gone, saddled with ESPN decline...even OU feels less special being part of the SEC.
Oregon - sweet gig...but will always feel lite, need to finally for once, get over the hump.

One thing to consider with SEC teams is the likelihood of a brutal schedule. There's more parity now and a nine game conference schedule. The wheel of fortune could spit out six or seven ranked teams and a few more hazards.
All it takes is a few key injuries or some lockerroom turmoil and your season could go sideways in a hurry.

Oregon is elite but they never win anything. Elite money and facilities, no results
