This thread isn't about Dirk and Gasol anyway.

it's about the inevitable slurping of Chris Bosh as the best PF in the world after the Heat win 66-70 games.

But it's still Dirk for 1 more year.

We all know that Nowitzki has been the best PF in the universe for about 3-4 years now. And yet in recent years the opinion that Gasol is a better player surfaced ever since Gasol joined a stacked Lakers squad playing next to a top 3 player. Overall around the league most knowledgeable fans still take Dirk, but it's a legitimate debate (Gasol will probably surpass Dirk due to age in 1-2 years).

Going into next season I'd take Dirk first, but Bosh is up there with those two. I'd probably take him over Gasol to be honest as he was better as his team's #1 option IMO.

Bosh is good, very good... Top 15-20 player, but I have a feeling he is about to become grossly overrated if this Heat team becomes a dynasty.

top 10 to 15 IMO

On another note, despite having the 2 best players in the world, does anyone think that the Lakers can matchup well against this Heat team? Solid wing defenders + a huge frontline. Would rely on Bynum not being a pussy in the playoffs though.

I think the Heat will beat the Lakers easily in a 7 games series. 6 games at most, probably 5

i see what your saying and playing with two top stars will only make him look better,(see Tyson Chandler) but he is a good player, just not as good as Dirk.
There tends to be a lot of hate towards the new big three and honestly i get why but i also don't get why it's that big of a deal, especially since it has already happened in Boston without consequence.

"I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that's strong words coming from the RuPaul of big men," O'Neal said. "I'm going to do the same thing (in their next meeting) I did before - make him quit. Make 'em quit and complain. It's what I do."

Not even in the same class as the top 5.

More of a hybrid, 6 boards a game for his career. Not better than Dirk anyway.

Sooo many more I could name better then Dirk.

man, no way I could see ranking Dirk ahead of Barkley

Other than 3 pointers I think Barkley was clearly better in every way... and in terms of toughness? It's like comparing a Hummer with a Fiat

I don't see Dirk as a traditional power forward either... his greatness IMO all springs from being a superior 3 point shooter... he's more like a mini Larry Bird (with fewer points, steals, assists, and rebounds) than a Kevin McHale style power forward

For the record I didn't say this.

Dirk will never be appreciated for how good he is by people who don't watch him play every night.
Yes, he is soft inside and he will back down from a fight but he plays his arse off every minute of every game. Most nights he is completely unstoppable.

He would be appreciated much more if he had ever played with a decent center. Imagine Robert Parish or Bill Russell clogging up the middle at both ends, allowing him to get open closer to the basket or helping him with quicker guys inside on defense. Jesus, he had to play with Shawn Bradley and Eric Dampier all these years.

His biggest perceived fault is his being soft. To be honest he is not the "hard" guy that a lot of people want in a seven footer. Hell, he doesn't have a mean bone in his body.

If he played for your team and you saw every game you would appreciate him more.

Barkley was great but I think in "every way" is an exaggeration.

Despite popular love of hating white players, Dirk is by no means a soft player. Especially in the playoffs, the guy is a warrior.

I agree with this. Might be the toughest 4 ever to match up with.

I sure wouldnt argue putting Barkley ahead of Dirk.

kg was the best defensive player in the NBA in his prime and he put up 20/10/5

barkely's defense was never close to kg's

compare kg's stats to mchale's

kg leads in PER, win shares/48, defensive win shares, offensive win shares, etc etc etc

You think Dirk is top 5 and KG isnt?

KG's best season 24.2 PPG, 13.9 RPG, 5 APG, 2.2 Blocks. With all around amazing defense.

Dirk's best season 26.1 PPG, 9.7 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.5 blocks. With below average defense.

KG had 9 straight 20/10/4 seasons. While being one of the best (if not the best) defensive PF in the league.

KGs career >>>> Dirks career. Not even close.
