I'm angry that you guys are fricking morons.
You're treating an exception as if it's the rule, but then again, you're proving that you represent a shitty land grant institution.

I have a feeling Notre Dame gets every athlete they want into school. I doubt you really know what you are talking about.
Damn why dont you cry a little more about it. I do believe i'll RA.

i just want everyone to play by the same standards... if this means bringing down the ones that a notre dame or whoever has, so be it

If that were true, then they would have better talent on the field.

Aren't you like a high school english teacher? What's with the arrogance? Surely you are not silly enough to assert that there is a substantial difference between private and public schools in terms of quality of undergraduate degrees.

Notre Dame, like most other private schools, offer a certain number of EXCEPTIONS to their admissions policy for athletes. Some school offer a finite number to be shared among ALL SPORTS, while others allocate a certain number to football, a certain number to basketball, etc.
So, if Notre Dame grants, say, two exceptions per class, that does NOT mean that it's just as easy to get into Notre Dame as it is to get into your shitty land grant school.
you and i both know the ambiguity of the "exception clause"; today, if notre dame really wanted to take 5-6 borderline guys they would be granted permission to do so. resident life has become more lenient across the board largely due to brian kelly and a desire to field a competitive football team. for example, michael floyd would have been suspended 10 years ago for his summer DUI, however, he did not even have to miss a single game.

not necessarily.

Exactly, just because there are a few exceptions it doesn't mean the rule.
Although I'd like to know about Cal's standards, do they go by Minimum for athletes or do they to have exceptions. Because there is no way marshawn lynch is literate.

Certainly.
However, they won't take 20-25 borderline guys, which is what your typical SEC school can do, and that is why it's is much more difficult for an athlete to get into Notre Dame.
You are competing for 5-6 spots versus competing for 20-25 spots.
moron countrags like bbap don't get that.

as far as *talent* goes we are a top 25 school, just not so much a top 25 *team.*
the talent is there and continues to be brought in; whether or not said talent executes on the playing field is another issue.

so you think every single person basically an SEC school signs is a mouth drooler? classic.

are you even remotely aware of how childish you sound right now?

No, just you.
What I'm saying is that the administration at an SEC school won't get in the way if the coach wanted to bring in 25 mouth droolers per year, whereas the administration at a school like Notre Dame will step in and say "no".
That's the main difference, and that you guys can't see that is what's frustrating.
And now I think I'll call you dickface.

Well I believe not Every Single, but a Majority.
SC isn't anything to harp about, but theres a huge difference between he athletes and students (well football and basketball players).
They are there to win football and basketball games (hopefully) not get the school awards in academic achievements.

The fact that you're not intelligent enough to realize the discussion going on should come as no surprise to anyone here, but come on, man.
Posted on 9/14/11 at 11:30 am to I Bleed Garnet
the bottom line is notre dame really doesnt lose recruits because they cant get into the school. people blaming their lack of success on the admissions are just wrong.

Those of us who actually know what happens at private schools can tell you the struggle between the administrations and the athletic departments when it comes to student athletes.
It isn't always private schools. A major reason why Randy Edsall left UConn was because he was constantly bitching about the admissions department not letting kids in. He had a certain amount of "freebies", but the rest of the scholarship players had to meet the general requirements of admission. Boston College's admissions department is a bitch too from what I've heard.
