How many of you would be OK with footing a $15,000 bill?

The racial slurs, insults, etc. is one thing, I have no problem with that.
But I do have a problem with the extortion aspect of the Dolphins story.
I sure as hell would not be OK with those extortion tactics. Paying for dinner is one thing, or contributing to something like that.
But footing a $15,000 Vegas strip club binge? Other extortion methods? That is too far, and I bet if it actually came to it, none of you would be OK with that either.

No problems.
These guys have the dough. Don't be cheap, everyone goes through it

Not true.
Average career of NFL player is about 3.8 years.
After taxes, that means about a million dollars in take home salary.
That won't last you your whole life.

Depends...what's a second round, year two guy making nowadays?

The latest claim is that this trip was an annual thing by all the linemen and that Martin had agreed to go then backed out at the last second.
Since the event was fully prepaid, they hit Martin up for his share of the trip since he backed out between booking it and going on it.

When you make what, $400k a year after taxes, nah, you don't have the dough for that.

I know a few NFL guys from college. Most of them are late round draft picks who play mainly special teams, making the league minimum.
They still share apartments and drive the same cars they did in college. These are the smarter guys though, but they know that their NFL income is not a never-ending gravy train. $15,000 is still a lot of money.

if you dont have the dough then dont agree to go on the trip. pretty simple.

Rookie minumum is about 500k, after taxes in a state like California you are down to 200k
Still a good chunk of money, but if your career is only 5 years, that won't last you forever.

Obviously not the same thing, but a guy netting $40K probably wouldn't be too happy with coughing up $1500 for some coworkers to go party with.

2nd rounders average 3-5.5mil contracts (4 years) before tax.

i'd be fine with it if i said i was in and everything got prepaid for. In fact i've done it.
I've had to back out of trips and did not ask for my portion of the hotel room back.

From one of the articles posted on the site, all the linemen agreed whether to go on the trip or not. Planes, rooms and show tickets were then booked and paid for. Martin was planning to go and then decided to back out after he already committed.
You can believe the extortion story if you want, but it doesn't sound like they took his lunch money and then decided to go spend it in Vegas.

Yeah that was my point. Martin's salary was like $800k before taxes. Even with $400k after taxes he shouldn't be paying fricking $15k for a restaurant tab. I'd have to be a millionaire many times over to feel comfortable dropping that kind of coin on a night out.
