Hopefully never. If you can't make a case for being the top team in the country then you have no place arguing over whether or not you should be one of the "extras". FSU really deserves to be the odd man out and have to play a better team because of their schedule.

Mar Emmert stole money from the bowls…..and the SEC is about to steal money from the NCAA.

I say 16, start the tourney during bowl season, essentially extend bowl season.

I agree, make it 16.
Season 11 games. No conference championships.

College football is turning into college basketball. The regular season will mean less and less. The NCAA likes this because they don't make much money from regular season games. However, the NCAA OWNS THE PLAY-OFFS!!!! Everyone who supported the play-off system assisted the NCAA with a massive "money grab." Why could everyone not see this?

I said as soon as they announced the 4 team playoff, it's simply not enough, FCS is smaller and has 20 teams, why do only 4 for FBS with MORE TEAMS?

Really needs 16 but 8 would be another step in the right direction.

does anybody really think Ohio St is better than TCU?

Nope.. TCU had one loss by 2 points against top 5 Baylor.
Ohio State had one loss by 14 points against unranked VT.
And Ohio State is on their 3rd string QB.. which is exactly why they got in and are handed to bama on a silver platter.

Expanding isn't the answer. an unbiased formula that takes into account SOS, quality wins, and bad losses is.

Pls remember there is no clear cut conference champion in Big12. What do the four in the playoff all have in common?

OSU does deserve it but TCU and Baylor do as well. Agree its better to have a 8 team playoff and keep the BCS formula if you ask me. This committee proved nothing but another controversy in the selection process. The only advantage this year is there will be 3 good games to watch.

The SEC has a champion.. Didn't matter in 2011.. It's always supposed to be the best teams.
And TCU or Baylor have both accomplished more than OSU.

I think that expanding to 8 will really hurt the interest level in college football. It will be more fair but it will allow fans to only care about what happens in their conference rather than having to care about what happens around the country. That is what has made college football so popular for the last 15 years with 2 (and now 4) teams-- it makes everyone care about what is happening everywhere else.

What would have been really interesting is if Florida state would have been left out this year with just 1 and 2 playing. I think it will go to 8 within 4 years with the first round being a home game for the higher seed.

no. Look at the mess deciding numbers 4-6, pick 7-9 would be an even bigger mess. much less separation points to use.

Going to 16 teams with all conferences represented is not sane. The best teams should be in. The last team in the SEC is better than the CUSA winner.

When it expands people will still complain about teams that get left out, just look at the basketball tourney that takes 68 teams.

True, but it's much less painful to argue about 8/9 or 68/69 for basketball than 4/5.

There is usually a natural break point around 6 or 7. If a team gets left out of an 8 team playoff, they probably lost 2 games and have only themselves to blame.
