How is there variance in 9 seconds?

At the completion of the prior play on screen clock had shown 8 seconds, to which the referee asked for it to be reset to 9 seconds. That takes away any talk about milliseconds etc.
We then saw 9 seconds run in real time on the game clock.
9 seconds is 9 seconds regardless of which clock we are going by. We watched it run, there’s no other discussion here.

You gotta let this go.or at least not start a new thread rehashing it.
The clock they reference started with 10 seconds. You should be satisfied now. You don't know where that clock started.
It will not be overruled.
They will not revisit it.
You will not get satisfaction.
It was a million dollar payout for M to win.
Just what it is.

Which is why OP pointed out that the ref asked that the clock be set to 9 seconds the play before that

9.0 or 9?
And there is ALWAYS human error in starting a clock. No one goes back and reviews 2nd down in the 3rd quarter to see if the snap time equals the clock time.
Not on Michigan's side. Just point out you ar beating a dead horse.

Problem was though it should have been a full 9 seconds, it wasnt. It clearly went from 9 to 8 almost instantly.

We gonna break it down in thousandths, so we can say we was right.

I hate to get into this discussion, but time it. From the time the center moves the ball until it hits the defender's hand. I did it 20+ times earlier today and never got a full 9 seconds my number averages between 8.4 and 8.6. we have a few people over now and 4 other guys tried timing it quite a few times and other than a couple of times when someone missed the stop button on their phone the time was always under 9 seconds. If you watch the video the clock moves from 9 to 8 very quickly then settles to a normal rate.
I went to bed last night feeling like WM got screwed and because I hate Michigan it pissed me off. Now it appears 9 seconds had not elapsed. I see it differently now but still happy the internet hates Michigan.

You do realize how math works, right?
The problem is for some reason they don’t display tenths of a second like in basketball, but they do track it.
The instant you start the clock it is no longer 9 seconds. It’s 8.9. Which is shown by 8.
So the question is: did the clock read zero for more than a second to go from 0.9 to 0.0.

Thank you for explaining this. I thought everyone understood this from watching basketball.

Is that the same crew that was demoted to college games after calling the Rams- Saints game in the Dome?

No it isn't. If that is the case how is 0.9 displayed? 0:00? No...

Yes? When have you ever seen a fraction of a second displayed? Similarly, when they start the clock, you think it waits a second to turn every time?
That’s the issue. Stadium clock doesn’t show tenths. But they track it in the booths.
That’s where the magical second comes from. The booth said it didn’t hit zero yet.

On first watch I felt like the on-screen went from 2 to 1 slower

That's the point, its not displayed but that doesn't mean it doesnt exist. And yes it does wait a second to turn. How else would it keep accurate time?
Think about this logically. A quarter is 15:00, if the clock immediately goes from 15:00 to 14:59 then in actuality the quarter is only 14:59. Where did the last second go?

I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure it takes a full second for the clock to go from 15:00 to 14:59.
So 0:00 is the end of the quarter and you still get a full 900 seconds per period.
The alternative is for there to be time left during the zeroth second, which obviously isn’t the case since teams are not allowed to run plays after the clock hits zero.

Think about this
Where does the first second come from?

And it really should have been 10.
It was the right call.

You are exaclty correct. Somehow people are arguing against this.

Again, in your scenario of it going from 15:00 to 14:59 instantly, that only counts out 899 seconds. There are 900 seconds in 15:00. Youre missing a second.
