re: How exactly was the 80-90s NBA better than current? Talent wise

quote:McHale couldn't guard LeBron because McHale was a traditional PF which is essentially a Center in today's game. McHale could easily handle Lebron in a pure low post situation, but LeBron's game isn't that limited.
i'm not taking away from mchale as a player, but to claim he would dominate lebron physically is funny
However, McHale gets less credit than he deserves because he was an awkward looking white guy. He was better than most remember/think.

The game is different now because today's game requires more skill.

hell barkley, rodman, mahorn and laimbeer would have lit up those pussies lebum and crybaby wade also
we're kind of getting into a transitional period, but how did iverson ever score so much with all of these huge motherfricking badasses populating the NBA? he was like 170 lbs of pure physicality

In all fairness, guys like Oakley, Anthony Mason, Mahorn could give Bron some problems physically.
ya think????? Did you watch any NBA from the past? just because lebum has some muscles does not mean he can take an old fashioned pounding or that he can fight or deliver an arse whipping.

lebron gets the shite beaten out of him more than any player not named dwight howard in today's game

Title says 80s-90s NBA, Slo

Yeah, I've watched a few games. I'm 51, so I've actually seen the guys I talk about, unlike some on here.

so bird, mchale and chief had no skill?
barkley, oakley, rodman, MJ, laimbeer, Isaiah, magic, worthy, malone, stockton, pippen, ewing, etc had no skill?
YOU ARE A FRICKING MORON KID. Thanks for proving it.

Had he grown up in a previous era, he likely would have been as tough and nasty as those from era's gone bye. However, at his size, had he grown up in a previous era, he may not have been given the opportunity to develop his guard like ball skills either.

Good point. Back in the day, if you were 610", you played center, no matter your body type. Not so anymore.

for the record, oak didn't have much skill
he was the king of mean mugging and enforcing shite on and off the court, but he wasn't skilled at all really

Laimbeer had no skill. Not like today's game.

Oak was a very physical rebounder. When the Bulls drafted him, he said at his press conference, "I'm here so Michael Jordan doesn't lead this team in rebounding again".
Posted on 6/23/13 at 12:02 pm to SabiDojo
Laimbeer was a good shooter.

There were a couple before KG, but yeah, he's the type I'm referring to.

KG skipped college b/c he was 7-feet (ish) and didn't awnt to play the 5. he literally changed the paradigm

I think of Gervin. 6'7" guys were forwards, then the Iceman comes along.

quote:I get what you are saying and don't totally disagree, but he wasn't the ball handling point forward types that Magic and Lebron are, or even an extremely tall shooting guard like Gervin and KD.
