Wilson was a dumpster fire in so many games last - year - but with Seattle's D keeping them in every game...Wilson would need just one good quarter of play and then getting the accolades of "pulling it out at the end."
I disagree with this. The stats don't show that.

First let's get the defense issue out of the way. Seattle had the 1st defense (14.4/game); San Francisco had the 3rd defense (17/game). Both had the benefit of great defense. To penalize one and not the other isn't fair.

Now let's get to the QB rating.

I think I would take Wilson.

he an okay QB with potential to become better.

after kind of a rough year... I thought he made a big stride against the Seahawks in the playoffs.

he made a few impressive throws that not many QB's could make against that defense. I'm thinking of that jump pass that he threw for a TD in like the 3rd quarter maybe? I think it was to Boldin.

he also made some nice runs in that game. But ultimately he/they came up short against the best defense in football.

funny thing is though... he almost threw a costly pick the week before against Green Bay. The 49ers might not even had another shot at Seattle if Micah Hyde reels in that interception.

the 49ers gave him more weapons to work with this year in the passing game. Add Stevie Johnson in there with Crabtree and Boldin... not bad at all.

also drafted Bruce Ellington but my guess is he won't make much noise as a rookie. Unless someone gets hurt or something.

and yeah, I realize he threw a pick at the end of the game against Seattle too.

but that was the theme of the year in the NFL. Seattle allowed the fewest points in football and forced the most turnovers so I don't see the big deal with how that game ended.

Average QB that might still have the potential to be good or even great. Problem is he brings it all in himself with the way he acts and presents himself as a douche, add to the fact that he is on a team that what looks like an awesome offense and elite defense, which means he should have it easy, but just look at his performances in 2013.

Saints fan here... Would have no problem with Colin replacing Drew. I doubt it ever happens though because Coach Payton offense doesn't revolve around that type of QB. Things do change though...

I hate stats...they can fool your own eyes...even after the game.

Stats say Manning had a pretty damn good Super Bowl against the Hawks...we all know that to be false.

I watched most if not all of the Niners and Hawks games this past year on the West Coast.

CK created a lot more offense - and the demand on him was more - especially:

1) Niners run game fell flat
2) O-line was terrible halfway through the year with injuries
3) Receivers - when he went half the year with total crap to throw too...everybody out/injured.

Wilson...had the run game, Seattle's better D (it is better than the Niners) - and safe roll-out passes to decent receivers.

Wilson plays in a cocoon and still had some horrible games until the end.

CK was asked to carry the load this year (unlike last) and while he struggled - he still was the force generating offense for the Niners who were stuck in neutral.

CK makes throws - most cannot...and while he is now known for the Sherman pick - he did drive them down the field against the NFL's best D - in the last minute - in the most hostile environment in football.

If CK played out of the NFC West - everyone would be slobbering all over his ability. But the Niners played one tough arse schedule last year.

I don't think anyone is being honest - saying they would take Wilson over CK - unless they can't divorce themselves from Wilson-Seahawks-D and just Wilson as a QB.

Wilson isn't asked to be John Elway - or even Brees - making everything go - that's for sure. He's a spoke in the wheel.

Wasn't there a huge expert/ 49er fan on here that used to break down film? I'd love to get his take.

He's a very good game manager and whether its the 49ers or another team he'll be the highest paid QBs in the NFL after next year

I don't think it's as clear cut as you're making it seem. From what I've seen, Wilson is a better passer and just as good of a runner.

At this point in their careers, I would take Wilson.

Sure as frick wasn't awesome last year.
- There was basically one quality receiver who played the full season (Boldin), and past Week 1 he got doubled like a mofo. That was basically it out of the receivers - a one-route or five-route progression by CK, ultimately not much would have changed. Once a second quality receiver got back (Crabtree), his numbers substantially improved.
- Gore took a step back.
- The OL took a considerable step back. They didn't play like an elite unit for much of last year.

Some of you make it out as if CK is the one thing holding the team back. In reality he was the only reason the Niners made a game of the NFCCG, even with the late turnovers. It'd have been a total rout if not for him.

^^^^

This guy watched the Niners last year...

Nobody else in this thread did.

Highlights and stats don't make an opinion of a QB.

I'm still confused as to why you think Kaep is "significantly better" than Wilson. I know you hate stats, but if that were the case (Kaep significantly better than Wilson), the stats should be able to provide some basis for this argument.
quote:

1) Niners run game fell flat
Niners rushed for more yards than Seattle.
quote:

2) O-line was terrible halfway through the year with injuries
IIRC, Seattle was missing two starting lineman for a decent portion of the year.
quote:

3) Receivers - when he went half the year with total crap to throw too...everybody out/injured.
Seattle doesn't exactly have an abundance of good receivers. We're talking about Golden Tate and Doug Baldwin being #1 and #2 and jackshit at TE.
quote:

Wilson...had the run game
See above. Niners rushed for more yards.
quote:

Seattle's better D
#1 defense vs #3 defense, so not much difference, but I'll concede the point.
quote:

CK was asked to carry the load this year
I don't think he was asked to do much more, if any more, than Russell Wilson. Nearly identical pass attempts and rush attempts.

I'm not debating that Kaep is a very good QB, but I take issue with the sentiment that Kaep is heads and shoulders better than Wilson.

I'm not sure how anybody would come to the conclusion that either is significantly better than the other. They had relatively similar stats and the two teams are built almost identically (good run game, below average receivers, good OL when healthy, top notch defenses, etc.). You can make a case for either being better, but neither stands head and shoulders above the other and it's silly to say otherwise

If I need a QB to win the Super Bowl in 2014 with the 49ers, I'd choose Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning or Luck ahead of Kaepernick. But if I were choosing for 2014-2020 the only guys I would take ahead of Kaepernick are Rodgers or Luck.

Tom Brady constantly gets the excuse that he has had no weapons as an excuse for not making it to or winning a Super Bowl recently. Please explain to me the superior weapons that Kaepernick had to work with.
