re: How are the Patriots always "there" at the end of the year?

Their use of cap space and drafting strategy should be a case study for the other 31 teams in the NFL.
They are just incredible at maximizing potential and selling high with talent and picks. Top to bottom maybe the best organization in pro sports. St. Louis Cardinals and a couple other are up there, but its really just top notch.
Brady on offense, Belichick on defense, and a wonderful front office/ownership.

Easy. They have the greatest QB of all time. Very underrated like Duncan. While everyone talks about Kobe and his 81 in the regular season etc, Duncan is just still at it, ripping off post season wins.

Interesting fact...
Of the 4 remaining playoff teams, the Patriots have gone the longest without winning a Super Bowl.

So true. They always just know when to turn the jets on and get their shite straight. Must be nice to be a Patriots fan even though I hate them (and all Boston sports for that matter)

It's been 10 yrs since their last superbowl win. A lot of heartbreak and disappointment has come with that too.
There is not ONE fanbase that would not trade what they have gone through and do what the Pats have done...
A great coach who seems when to get the team in PLAYOFF mode[see after KC game]. They always seem to peak at the right time.....

Their division is and has been freaking trash for a loooooong time.

That trash division helps. They have no competition and all they need to do is win a couple against the rest of the NFL and they'll find themselves in the playoffs [quote]
Beginning with the 2003 season, the Patriots are 57-15 (.791) against the 3 other AFC East teams.
In that same 12-season span, the Patriots are 93-27 (.775) against everyone outside their division.
93-27 regular season record OUTSIDE of their division over the past 12 years.

- Top 3, at worst, all time QB.
- Great, coach who doesn't always fall into the groupthink coaches do
- Innovative front office, for lack of a better word. Though, you can definitely question lots of moves not having worked out in the last 10 years, which may be why they were never able to win that 4th title
- Crappy division, that helps too. Bills, Jets, Dolphins...awful awful awful.

But for two complete flukes at the hands of Corky Manning, they'd have gotten two more and Brady would be the ONLY QB with 5 rings.

That is some serious hating right their. I bet redskins and cowboy fans right now would kill to be in the mix every year like the pats.
10-6 is a horrible season by patriot standards. That a playoff caliber team most years. The patriot run is impressive regardless of the last 2 super bowl losses.

People give the Patriots grief for the quality of the AFC East, but they also have a hand in just how bad it is; think of all the years a Buffalo, a NYJ, or a Miami has been at that 7-9, 8-8, 9-7 type might-be-breaking-through-to-compete, and a loss to New England has sent them reeling into a tailspin and snuffed out a potential challenger.
They've been just as good out of division, but their real mastery of that division has been cutting off their competition in key moments. They might blow a road game to a 6 win Buffalo team, but they'll sweep the 9 or 10 win Miami/NYJ, the same year, to keep their stranglehold in place.

The more they suck, the better draft picks they get. It's up to the Front Office to get the correct coaching and talent in.....until then, they will all continue to be NE's doormat.
