Hikers: some states now sell "Search and Rescue" cards for the inept among you

This, in a story from New Hampshire of four New Jersey hikers who started their hike too late in the day, and insuffiicient water AND food and their clothes were too light to keep them warm after dark.
They may be billed for the cost of rescuers treking in, feeding and clothing them and then leading them to safety.

New Hampshire has to be due to Mt. Washington. Card is warranted there and for the Western US

Good. Tax payers shouldn't be on the hook when a person's own negligence causes them to get into a situation requiring substantial rescue operations. Not for accidents, which do just happen. But when actual personal negligence is involved.

You can thank outdoor “influencers” telling a bunch of fatties and otherwise unfit people the outdoors is for them too for the crazy influx in these rescues being required.
Fatties blocking trails all over the United States
Which creates a different set of hazards because you have to go off trail to get around them in order to continue your hike.

Call me a pussy but I’m not going to go trekking off into the wilderness for a fun afternoon if I’m not exactly sure of what the route and plan is
If I have to think about getting rescued and evac’d out, I’m just gonna do something safer

Here in Vegas just about every single time I see one of the Red Rock emergency rescues the police/SAR caption is: an unprepared and inexperienced hiker was rescued today. It's pretty wild.
Once every 10 times it will say something like medical incident due to heat, but I kind of see that in the same class as unprepared.

That’s not being a pussy. It’s called being smart. Unfortunately common sense and smarts are severely lacking these days.
