The Eddie George Tommie Frazier year was one I questioned and you can make a great case for Long over Bo. Torretta was a career award, he lost 1 game as a starter, up to that point.

I was furious about Bush over Young, although the actual vote wasn't that close. It was 100% a product of ESPN. Reggie Bush didn't even have the most rushing TDs on his own team.

"He's so accurate" - because he's in the spread offense throwing screens all day + his deep passes all year have been completed because no defender is anywhere near the receiver the majority of the time.
2010 wants their Cam Newton argument back.

RG3 over TR
really?
TR was hardly screwed... He had a excellent season against a bunch of average teams who were living off of reputation.
If any RB deserved it, it was Ball...38 tds is 38 tds.

RG3 game winner against Oklahoma ...
Here is to all of those that said his deep balls were to "wide open" recievers ...
He's got 3 feet separation on the closest guy (who was also lost his balance and didn't make a play on the ball)
Some will say "he threw the receiver open" but the db's lost coverage.

True, but Bush had an additional 1,100+ receiving/returns yards.

The Fresno game gave him the Heisman that may have been the best game I've seen, including the Rose Bowl that year.

Come on man! He threw it while scrambling, across his body! Name another college QB that can do that. Hell, there isn't too many NFL QBs that can do that.

1997 Woodson over Manning
Utter nonsense. This lonely torch gets carried only by mixed-up SEC fans.
quote:
It wasn’t a backlash against the hyped up Golden Boy, Manning, and it wasn’t some sort of Big Ten, East Coast bias thing. Charles Woodson was the best college football player in America in 1997 by any measure you want to go by.
1. Michigan doesn’t win the national championship without him, while Tennessee lost to Florida and Nebraska by a combined score of 75 to 37.
1. Woodson came up with the key pick to beat Michigan State, came up with the punt return for a score and an interception at the goal line to beat Ohio State by six, and he finished the year with eight interceptions and four touchdowns including a big interception against Ryan Leaf and Washington State in the Rose Bowl (which came after the Heisman was awarded, of course).
3. Manning was great in his senior year, completing 60% of his throws with 37 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions, but was he the MVP? No, not compared to Woodson. Was he the nation’s best passer? No, UCLA’s Cade McNown, Leaf, and Ohio State’s Joe Germaine were the top three in quarterback rating, and Manning wasn’t even in the top ten.
Woodson was the difference maker in Michigan's national championship season doing it all from returning punts and playing receiver along with his duties as the nation's best defensive player. Take Manning away from Tennessee and there's no SEC title. Take Woodson away from Michigan and there's no national title.

Mathieu has far better numbers this season than Woodson did in 1997. Just sayin'.
Woodson's Heisman was the power of a media meme. Hell, Chris Fowler spent part of the recent ESPN book trying to sort of apologize for it. Though I do think the selection looks worse in retrospect, as MAnning has become one of the greatest QB's ever. If a QB was ever going to lose to the one defensive player, it's odd it happened to the guy who turned out to be, well, the best QB.
The list of recent QB's who won the Heisman is less impressive than Peyton Manning by his lonesome. But, the voters had no way of knowing that when it happened.

Baker (1962) led the nation in total offense and was the first Heisman winner to come from the West Coast.

Peyton losing was a total crock. I recall at the time Archie commenting that Peyton broke the SEC yards in a game record and that week went down in the Heisman polls.

He also was an All Conference point guard who led Oregon State to the Final Four, that year.

Whatever.
That doesn't even get you invited anymore...
Barkley...69.1% of his throws, 3528 yards with 39 TDs and 7 Int.

So u would take griffen over luck? Your a fricking idiot
Posted on 12/10/11 at 11:22 pm to SMD
First off, who the frick are you? Second of all, nobody here was talking about who would take Griffin over Luck. Third of all, we talking about who the best COLLEGE player is. Four, I probably do take Luck over RG3 if I'm drafting, but I'm not 100% sure about that. Depends on a lot of factors.
Fifth, frick off.
