For a team that hated spending, they sure like to do it inefficiently

ETA: Need a 3B, CF and SP before a closer

They do realize you need to be ahead to need a closer right?

At least they actually know how old their closer is now.

Nunez was solid and had a lot of saves last year... This signing makes me believe all the hype around them signing some big name free agents... why else would they spend 9 mil/year on a closer... they will be in a position to close out more games this year if they just sign one (Reyes,Pujols [not happening], wilson or buerhle)

I just hope they don't sign Pujols or Reyes. They will be a legit threat if they do. The NL East will have 4 strong teams next year as the Nats improve and Marlins sign everyone.

He's good, but a waste of money for them.

Someone ran the numbers and Bell has only closed out 2 more games a year than the Fish have the last 3 years. They've spent 13 million on closers... in 3 years. Now 9 a year for Bell?

As a fantasy owner of bell I liked him on the Padres cause their offense was so shitty that every win was basically a save situation.

Not as awesome as his 10 minute interview during the HR derby. I would link it but i don't have the express written consent of major league baseball.

trying to figure out why they let mike adams and heath bell go... makes no sense...

And yes his interview was awesome... also that Yoda backpack that he was carrying around just handing things out to kids. That is what it is all about and that is a guy who knows how lucky he is to be a major leaguer.

Adams - there was a market for relievers last season and they got a couple of decent pieces for him

Bell - they tried to resign him but were only willing to commit to a 2-year contract

He's a pretty interesting cat. Keeps everything loose and other players in the clubhouse love him, from what I've read and heard.
