I’m game.

I just have to drink a lot to be able to deal with all of the unattended children

Oaklawn for the apple blossom is next on my list.

I’ve only been to delta besides EVD in La but I much prefer EVD as a spectator

All the talk has been Journalism this and Journalism that. I've been to CD the last few mornings, and he's nothing special. IMO, the 2 best looking horses are Sandman and Sovereignty. You're right though, it is a crapshoot. Too many variables with 20 horses. I am trying to beat the favorite, and get paid. The media is obsessed with chalk. Besides, you trust Rispoli on dirt? Not me. He's a toss. I'll post PPs later tonight

Getting there Thursday evening and not leaving til Monday, so should be able to hit a few of those. Thanks.

Bardstown Road, East Market / Main Street, and St. Matthew’s are all better areas for bars and restaurants than 4th Street.

I don’t like how sovereignty travels. Head up and hollow backed. Lots of knee action when I’ve seen him trotting too.

I think sandman gets himself in a lot of trouble and maybe gets rattled in the gate with the noise. He’ll eventually mature into a monster, but he’s still so green.

He’s a talented horse, no doubt. But it’s tough for me to fully trust one who’s been facing softer company out west in those smaller fields.

It looks like we might get something in the low 23-and-change range—and if we do, he should be right where he wants to be, barring any early chaos.

East Avenue is a horse that is a wildcard, I don’t quite get the dismissal. His effort in the Blue Grass might’ve been one of the most impressive runner-up finishes I’ve seen in a Derby prep. He carved out a suicidal pace going 1 1/8 and still only lost by a nose. The horse may finally be getting on par with expectations.

I think there’s a real good shot we get a price this year especially with two Baffert’s soaking up money.

I should have all the final fractions loaded today for each horse, and I’m especially interested in digging into the sustained pace numbers.

The card for the day is awesome man. Race 8 is going to be great.

I've never given up on East Ave. Asmussen horse can win R8.

So last race goes off at 7:02 on Derby. 6:47 pm on Oaks. So you'll probably do a fair amount of eating at the tracking throughout the day. You can try Wagner's for breakfast but it's going to be packed on those days. - Con Huevos Multiple locations - website - Wild Eggs Multiple locations I was going to suggest House of Marigold out in St. Matthews (off 64) but they looked to be pretty booked up for the times you'd want on those mornings. Bardstown is going to be limited on some evening dining options by the time you get back to Bardstown (about an hour drive WITHOUT traffic). I'd suggest finding places in the city to eat for dinner if possible. Some places will be pretty busy or may have Derby specific events, so you might want to consider possible reservations. Especially if you have a bigger group of folks going. I'd head down to NuLu/Main/Market area of downtown Louisville. - NAMI Korean Steakhouse (and with four or more people you can get a grill table). Website for reservations/menu - La Bodeguita de Mima Cuban Restaurant. Has a Cigar Bar as well if that's your jam. - Mayan Cafe (maybe one of my favorites Downtown) Website for reservations/menu - Most of the big steakhouses look pretty much booked up for Oaks/Derby. Otherwise I'd tell you try Repeal, Le Moo, or Jeff Ruby's. That said, it looks like Jack Fry's down in the Highlands (Bardstown Road) has some later in the evening availability that might suit you depending on what time you leave the track. - If you want a Hot Brown you can do The Brown Hotel but they have Derby specific stuff and will likely be booked up at this point. The Brown Hotel

Slightly off topic, but this is the best of Tigerdroppings. Someone taking the time to put this response together to help a fellow Dropper is why I hang around and sift through the riff raff to enjoy myself here.

Very nice, BluegrassBelle.

I was on Sandman until they drew post positions.

Until further notice, I may just put $5 on everything longer than 20-1.

Sell your tickets and go to Keeneland in the fall.

You are staying in Bardstown or off Bardstown Rd in Louisville.

Two very different things.

Also going for the first time this weekend and I see a lot of people saying to avoid the infield, but that’s where my tickets are. So what am I getting myself into?

Mud, debauchery, and you won't see a horse that isn't on a screen.

Basically just Mardi Gras.

Like bourbon street Mardi Gras. Or so I’ve heard… I’ll never go to the infield.

I am a little sad that they're building a bunch of shite in the infield (if they decide to continue with the project) that'll class it up a bit.

The infield shouldn't be class. It should be the glory that Hunter S. Thompson wrote about.

quote:

Total chaos, no way to see the race, not even the track … nobody cares. Big lines at the outdoor betting windows, then stand back to watch winning numbers flash on the big board, like a giant bingo game.

Old blacks arguing about bets; “hold on there, I’ll handle this” (waving pint of whiskey, fistful of dollar bills); girl riding piggyback, T-shirt says, “Stolen from Fort Lauderdale Jail.” Thousands of teenagers, group singing “Let the Sun Shine In,” ten soldiers guarding the American flag, and a huge fat drunk wearing a blue football jersey (No. 80) reeling around with quart of beer in hand.

No booze sold out here, too dangerous … no bathrooms either. Muscle Beach … Woodstock … many cops with riot sticks, but no sign of riot. Far across the track the clubhouse looks like a postcard from the Kentucky Derby.
