Has Virginia redeemed themselves?

Have they proven last year was a fluke? Will they ever shed any negative labels?

Obviously, it’s possible to be part of a history-making loss and rebound. Duke lost to Lehigh. FGCU blitzed Georgetown and San Diego State, and I don’t think either program is defined by it.

If UVa wins it all, it may make for one of the best college hoops stories ever. But are they redeemed with anything less?

UMBC absolutely dominated Virginia last year. That was no fluke

They’ve beaten a 16, 9, and 12 seed. They need to at least beat Purdue

Their percentage underperformance to seed is still awful - maybe the worst in modern NCAA history.

It’s tough because they are always seeded so highly, but they need at least a Final Four and maybe a title or close call to erase the perception.

No. Doing what you are supposed to doesn't get you of the underachiever list, until you win the title.

Even then, there will be a thousand what-ifs, and a stink that can be at least offput with a 'But we won a title next year'.

They looked like crap.

Again.

Oregon had a bad run to end the 1st half and a bucket here or there would've won.

No #1 team winning by a few points in the early rounds can survive this tournament.

Because in the regular season we played well, and in the tournament we've played poorly, by and large, thus far. Why that is - who knows?

Kyle Guy, arguably the nation's best shooter, is in a huge slump, which is really hurting our offensive efficiency. Hopefully he can shoot his way out of it, he has the potential to really light it on fire.

This is a team that went 17-25 from three at Syracuse, causing Boheim to say essentially that he hasn't seen a team shoot it that well - ever. In that game Kyle Guy was something like 9-11 from 3, he's got that kind of ability.

This team can put up points, and I don't think the criticism that this is a "typical" UVA team with no offense is fair. That being said, I understand the perception from the folks that don't follow the team closely, as they haven't looked good in the tourney. We also need more consistency and aggressive from Deandre Hunter, our most talented player.

I think the main difference from this team and the teams from the past few years is that we've got roll players that can step up when our main guys aren't producing. Kehei Clark had a huge game last night. Diakite (who is arguably no longer a roll player) had a monster game against Oklahoma.

Geaux Hoos, Geaux Tigers.

Agreed, especially with the jump De'Andre Hunter, Ty Jerome and Kyle Guy took from last season to this. They are a, wildly, efficient offense that ranks Top-10 nationally in points/possession and Top-3 in AdjO.

Been very impressed with Kihei Clark. Kid is small, but hell of a competitor. Would be more-known if it weren't for the aforementioned three names.

Is there reason that Braxton Key only played seven minutes last night? He's one of the key bench players in CBB - was surprised he didn't see many minutes, especially given his length and rebounding prowess.

Not sure on key, and he played really well against Oklahoma. I was also surprised by the lack of minutes for Huff, especially when we needed an offensive spark. I know he turned it over right when he came in, but I think he has a longer leash than that.

A number one seed winning the NCAA tournament is never going to qualify as one of the "best college hoops stories ever."

VA is awful, I have no clue how they only lost 3 games. Getting roughed up against Gardner Webb through the first half... please.

If OR gets 2 more buckets in that game they lose again.

They still can’t score.

The defense is the real deal tho
