Ohio State will be #3 next week. Oregon will be 6-8.

They both have one loss. Oregon beat Ohio State @ Ohio State.

I just dont understand how recency bias is so strong in cases like Oregon but Clemson, Bama, Oklahoma, Ohio State barely drop at all after a loss

Have you watched Oregon and Ohio State since that game? If you have you would realize that since then Oregon has lost and looked like crap against bad teams and OSU has started to look really good.

For the record, as of today i would certainly have Oregon ahead of OSU, but OSU has a ton more good teams to play still

People on here have said, "so if Oregon loses the rest of their games they should still be ranked ahead of Ohio State?"

Moving the goalposts and trying to belittle the importance of head to head.

They both have 1 loss!

If head to head doesn't matter with two 1-loss teams then why play? Like being in the playoff and saying yeah, A lost to B but we still think A is better...we're voting them to the Championship game. I thought the season was supposed to be the defacto playoff like in all of CFB history.

The regular season has been neutered, replaced by eye-test and preseason bias.

It's really not that hard to understand, it's a 12 game season not a 1 game season

Rankings have always been as much about when you lose as it is about to whom you lose.

Don’t care what they look like since. Oregon won at Ohio State and pretty much controlled the game. Ducks should be ranked ahead of Ohio State.

Will they? They're over 100 pts behind bama in both polls.

If Minnesota's RB hadn't gotten hurt, OSU would have two losses and be ranked #15.

My criticism is that by week 7 teams with similar records/SOS should be shuffled based on performance. You should not be able to draw a direct line to a splitting hairs preseason ranking and where a team is ranked in the middle of the year.

Would you pick Oregon over OSU today?

I certainly wouldn't.

So they should be based off a hypothetical matchup today rather than the game they actually played a month ago?

This narrative is just not a good one. Ohio State had more first downs and 100 more yards.

Oregon did some good things and won the game and made some more plays than OSU did on that day. But this control the game stuff is laughable

When does your narrative change? What week is enough data to swing it for you or does it not matter?

Everything is subjective in this sport. Bama lost last week to a worse team than OSU lost too, why did Bama stay ahead of OSU? that makes no sense

yes. Teams change as a season progresses. Some get better. Some get worse.

When the when the playoff rankings come out they won't look the same as the current ones.

You should not be ranked ahead of a team that beat you if they have the same number or fewer losses than you.

This eye ball test is BS.

These teams played OOC early on. Ohio state broke in tons of young guys. If they played Oregon next week, they’d be a large favorite in sports books. If it comes down to Oregon and Ohio state for a playoff spot, Oregon will likely get the nod, but we all know this Oregon team is going to lose again.

You play to win the game.

Unless that game was in September. Then it doesn’t matter.

Head to head is way down the list of things that rankings look at. One weeks doesn’t define a team

Ohio St never led and trailed the final 50 minutes of the game. Pretty obvious that Oregon won and controlled the game the entire way.

Only thing that seems to matter is number of losses
