already holds the Texans franchise record for career sacks

The dude is a baller, but lets not act like this is some incredible feat.

The team is 16-years-old. Tom Brady has literally been in the league for two more years than the franchise has existed.

2014 was probably the best year a defensive linemen has ever had in NFL history.

59 tackles
20.5 sacks
1 safety
4 forced fumbles
5 fumble recoveries
1 interception
10 passes defended
2 defensive TD's (80 yd int return and FR TD)

Oh and he played offense:

3 receiving TDs on 3 receptions for the year

He holds the record by a factor of 23 sacks, I think it only took him like 3-4 seasons to break Mario Williams' record so that's like Ruthian production right thur

Obviously volume doesn’t matter all that much to voters. Terrell Davis had under 8000 yards rushing yet he’s in the HOF.

Him being a 3x DPOY will be enough for to get in. I highly doubt they would care he is 77th in sacks.

Honest question, I'm younger and wasn't old enough back then, but wasn't Bo Jackson regarded in the same way in the NFL? Like if he hadn't had the bad injury he would have surely been a hall-of-fame running back?

That is the case.

JJ has played in around 80 games and we’re debating if that’s long enough to get in. Bo played 38 and only had around 3000 total yards.

I don't even think Bo played more than half the games in any given season, now if he played NFL full-time and was the undisputed starting back for the Raiders during those 4 seasons you could make a compelling case for him to be HOF because he was VERY productive and efficient when he was ON the field

Weird to think he's already a lock for the Hall of Fame. I know the sports are different, but an MLB player who put up those types of comparative numbers for baseball in 2-3 seasons wouldn't even be considered.

In terms of potential, sure. But Watt is a 3 time DPOY and a 4x 1st Team All-Pro. Bo made one pro bowl and never ran for a 1,000 yards or had more than 6 total TDs in a season. His production isn't in the same stratosphere as Watt's.

It's also beyond the numbers too, from a defensive perspective JJ's basically the face of the NFL next to TB12 on the offense and simply so athletic for how big he is, dude catches TD passes on the goalline he's made that impact in terms of the NFL's value and gotta love a guy wearing #99 one of the most iconic football jersey numbers ever

First player in league history to record 2 20 sack seasons in a career

If "League history" starts in 1982 because Deacon Jones recorded over 20 sacks 3 times or more in 14 game seasons.

I'm sure that "77th all time" in sacks is far lower .

nfl is letting too many people in. it is not exclusive enough imo, but it is way too late to cut back now.

Yeah people today don't know how great Deacon Jones was or Lawrence Taylor or Ronnie Lott or Reggie White, it's a damn shame

I can see his ballot now:

“Corniest player to ever play in the NFL”

Isn't he 3-time defensive player of the year?

As you said in 5 seasons.

I'd say it's crazy for him not to be in.

He did it from three technique and getting o-lines full focus. It was insane to watch

If Terrell Davis and his limited seasons got in, watt better make it too is all I'm saying.

Double digit tackles for loss
The defensive triple double
5 total TDs

Should have been mvp. I'm sorry, but that was insane season to watch. Maybe I'm mistaking the year but I think that was the one where they triple teamed him and he still knocked down the pass at the line. It was an insane play to watch.

Rodgers had a great, but not amazing season and won mvp. If watt couldn't win that year, I don't a defensive player ever will.
