I think the rest of the competition argues against Roddick more than the Federer losses.

The field just sucked.

Les is a good one. But not quite on this level IMHO. Although, without Saban, Les is never Les. He has a butterfly effect at LSU because of Saban.....
I'm fascinated by the LSU/Alabama/Les/Saban dynamic. I hope we get a documentary about it one day.

Les went from a bonafide force in CFB, who had(has) an infectious personality, who's teams played with swag and reckless abandon..

...to a complete joke(in the eyes of a-hole fans).

Saban did a number on his legacy.

Honestly, his performances against Bama arent what made him look like a joke to most.

Ole miss debacle

tenn debacle

press conferences

Those are what made most people call him an idiot

Debatable
isn't this an all else equal hypothetical?
What other title would he have won? Can't really bring the "broke his spirit" or "momentum" argument into it because at that point the possibilities are endless.

I haven't looked at the H2H, but like Roddick, I bet Hewitt would have about three more without Fed.

As you guys have said, Fed without Nadal would be so ridic. Probably like 22 majors, although I bet he'd be retired by now since Rafa wouldn't have pushed him.

Let's not forget how many Djokovic has peeled off from Fed and Nadal. He has had a huge impact on the history of the game.

But, we could do this stuff all day. Courier is maybe in the Becker/Edberg/Lendl/Connors/Mac/Wilander tier without Sampras. Chang probably has three or four majors without Sampras. Agassi is probably top five all time without Sampras.

2012. We would have been in the SEC title game against UGA in a rematch. Winner goes on to crush Notre Dame

I said the field sucked.

It's also an argument I'd make against Federer.

Hewitt, Roddick, and the world's biggest headcase in Safin.

Good for Roddick for being number 2, I suppose, but it's much less impressive due to the competition.

I disagree. I will never buy the competition argument in any sport. As if there is a weird phenomenon that makes a sports athletes suck in one time frame......

Oregon was highly regarded that year and would have been in.

No. Not at all

UGA was number 3 going into the SEC champ game

UF was #4

UO was #5

So a 1 loss LSU would have been #5(only loss to UF). Whomever wins that game goes to play ND

It's been a few years, but how many French Finals did Nadal beat Fed in? And there were several in a row. Fed might have wrapped up another 2-3 majors just in the French without Nadal. I know he went 2.5 years without even missing a Slam finals several years back, and the only thing keeping him from a slam was Nadal.

Edit: Looked it up. The years he won the US, Wimbledon, and Aussie open were: 2004, 2006. The year he won the French in 2009, he also won Wimbledon.

I'm no tennis expert but aware that Fed is one of the few that still utilizes a one-hand backhand. I heard it mentioned at Wimbledon that Roddick used to go into matches against Fed with a wide lead in aces for the tourney but then get out-aced by Fed in their match.

That is because Fed is absolutely remarkable at reading a serve. It is honestly uncanny how he does it

Lochte would be the best American swimmer if it was not for Phelps.
