The sports position out of major sports (football, baseball, basketball, hockey etc.) that you feel requires the biggest combination of physical and mental ability making it the most difficult. Curious to see opinions... go.

Welcome. Your username is what I often call my dog.
Are you asking hardest as in physically demanding, or hardest as in most difficult skill set?

PG in basketball
QB in football
(both require a ton of skill as well as leadership)
3B or SS in baseball, you need a damn strong and deadly accurate arm

Physically? OL would be my choice. There is just something about a hockey goalie and CB that I am amazed by their abilities.

I'd say a combination of both. The position you feel that requires the biggest combination of physical and mental ability. I'd go with an NFL quarterback, and very few are actually elite. In my opinion there is nothing like watching a great QB play (Manning, Brees, Brady, Rodgers).

Assuming we are talking just team sports
1. Starting Pitcher
2. Cornerback

arguably the most on the field, besides a handful of absolute dominant WRs

Not what some would consider a major sport but a professional golfer /thread

Probably a soccer goalie. That followed by a qb.

1 PGA golfer
2 quarterback
And in baseball it is a catcher that calls the game from behind the plate.

Catchers put on and take off four separate pieces of equipment each inning, have to be mentally in the game to call pitches, set up in the right spot, be ready to block bad pitches and recover wild pitches, have powerful and accurate arms themselves, be aware of baserunners, reach into the stands or dugout to catch difficult popups in a glove not designed for doing so, focus on catching throws from the outfield, while knowing where they are in relation to home plate while bracing for a collision with a full speed ahead baserunner, and apply a tag
oh yeah, and hit a little bit too

Third base is tough The ball can get on you so quickly at that position.

How many professional golfers are there? How many NFL QBs are there?
I'd hardly call it a /thread. I know a lot more people who are a lot closer to being a professional golfer (granted I live in S. Florida) than they are an NFL qb.

The correct answer is catcher. The reasons are listed above.
