I think the Rockets got the worse end of the deal with everything being considered...but holy crap I hate Kevin Martin and am super glad he is gone. He is about as tough as a sack of feathers. Good riddance.

it had nothing to do with any rules and everything to do with a different offensive system. martin needs to control the ball, and the point does that in the rockets's system

Not being in Adelman's system hurt, but he went from averaging 8.5 free throw attempts a game to averaging 4.5. A lot of that was because of the rule changes. Getting to the line was part of what made Martin so efficient.

the only reason he didn't get to the line is b/c of the system. he wasn't allowed to dominate the ball

Martin took 259 shots at the rim in 2010-11. Last season he took 63.

that has nothing to do with any rule change

I think the thing no one has mentioned is how much the lakers profit from this trade. If they can get any kind of chemistry, this move makes them heavy favorites in the West. OKC basically threw away a title run this season for the future, and I'm not sure how much better their future became.

Lin is happy I'm sure. He doesn't have 100% of the weight to carry from being the face since the signing. Now he can just go play.

Is kevin Martin going to have prime time impact in the playoffs like Harden did? I don't think he will. I know Harden was borderline terrible in the finals, but he's a huge reason they got there in the first place. He sealed a few games in the playoffs when Durant and Westbrook weren't completely dominating.

Negative. They system switch was part of the problem, as were the injuries. But even after Adelman left SAC Martin kept up the efficiency and free throw attempts. 60% of his offense comes from 3s and free throws. So the system McHale runs shouldn't really hurt Martin that much. What hurt him was rule changes that effected how he got to the line.

He missed 40 games last year. So he basically went from 3 shots at the rim a game to 1.5. The free throw attempts had more to do with his drop in efficiency.

why?

his main issue is health, and if he plays as a sub (which he should) that shouldn't be as big of a worry

how?

mchale has the ball in the point guard's hands

martin needs the ball in HIS hands to dominate the ball and drive/shoot

he was a catch/shoot player in mchale's system, which is why his FTs dropped by like 240

Wonder what the picks were? The Rockets should get a sign a trade deal in place or he will be gone at the end of the year.

IF he doesn't get hurt, it's not a huge downgrade (assuming he will be allowed to dominate the ball)

martin had a 21.46 PER in 11/12 (when he was used properly)

harden had a 21.13 PER last year

Why? Because he's not of the same caliber and his been in the playoffs once in his 8 year career. Those bright lights might not suit him.

toronto's protected 1st and a dallas 1st (don't know the restrictions, if any). they also got a charlotte 2nd (so it should be high)

The 2013 draft is going to suck hard though.

good deal for both

Surprised by this thread. I think this is a poor deal for both teams and an incredibly bad deal for OKC. Seems like an incredibly stupid trade on their part. They don't need a bunch of mediocre players (which those protected 1sts will likely be and Kevin Martin is). The odds on Lamb being a Harden-type player are also pretty low.

If you compare this strictly on a player to player basis you could make a good case for OKC but that is not the big picture for them. They have a nice window to win a title (or multiple titles). They just made that less likely with this trade. I also don't buy the money argument; they are one of the premier franchises right now with a great fanbase. One way to make a lot of money is to have a fun team that wins a lot. Seems like a shite deal to me first glance. I would be very happy if I were a Lakers fan.

very few teams could afford the payroll they'd be at, let alone in a small market with a small market local deal
