Really? What is Stanford's endowment?
This is one of the funniest posts I have read in a long time.

What Ivy League Schools play in a BCS conference? Stanford just invested in a pretty nice new stadium for its football program, and Harbaugh will not be short on cash any time soon.

If the Silicon Valley Angels that happen to be graduates of The Farm want to see good football on Saturdays, they'll make sure Harbaugh is taken care of. And they won't miss the money at all.

I think he'd do well so long as he was allowed to puff on a hot Marlboro while coaching.

He will always be limited at Stanford. He will never have a year to year top 10 team at Stanford.

At a LSU type program he would.

His days are numbered in Palo Alto. I'm not sure where his next stop is but he is a legit top 10 cfb coach.

dude, he's talking about athletic dept money, the SEC has way more. Stanford would not spend from the endowment on athleteics the way SEC teams spend FB money.

This is totally false. Stanford as more money than half of the SEC schools combined. They just do not spend it on football coaches.

Stanford does not make anywhere close to the money the big time SEC teams do from football. Name one school that funds it athletic dept with endowment funds.

That's the status quo. Stanford hasn't had a coach, a QB or a football program like this in a long time.

If Stanford wants to be relevant in football, they'll change their paradigm.

If not then they'll have a lot of empty seats in that pretty new stadium of theirs.

seriously

take the SEC out of this - do you think they are willing to spend 3 or 4 million a year to keep another major team from taking Harbaugh?

Certainly they have the money to spend - but they haven't done this before have they?

Again, it's up to them if they want to set a precedent. All I'm saying is they're certainly capable of doing it if they want to.

Do you seriously think a school like Stanford would want to turn into a football school like an LSU/Alabama/Florida? Come on. Also usually endowments like that have specifications as to what they can and can't spend on, they have boards, audits, etc. Stanford does not, and will never have that kind of FB first culture. They will never generate the revenue from FB to spend like the alabama's, florida's texas', ohio states etc. they also probably can't consistently get the quality of athletes to be top 10 every year like a usc. Harbaugh is a good coach, he got a really good QB, they should enjoy the ride. if he's smart and ambitious, he'll move on eventually to the NFL or a big time college football program.

yes they have some very wealthy alum that could in theory dump a ton of money on a coach. so do a lot of other schools.
