Man you're right about that. EPSN was leading the charge.

Well, he won't be able to call them all...but the final will be unwatchable.

Which explains why NBC signed a deal to show every BPL match next season...

In about 20 years soccer will the number 1 sport in America.

This mythical 20 years people like to tout has seemingly been around for 40 years.

The 70's told us it would happen in the 90's and even with the World Cup on home soil - it didn't happen.

But you know what happened in the 90's? Football started distancing itself from every other major sport.

Unless America becomes 75% Hispanic and 50% of that...right off the boat and across the border with no US ties...soccer will never be the #1 sport in America.

Who cares? It is the fastest growing sport, but it won't catch football. Even if it became the most popular sport, it's not going to make you eat turnips and march in the streets.

You would be better off not even responding to posts that inane.

Soccer will probably get the #4 spot in the American sports space. It is undoubtedly growing bigger, despite claims of this happening the 60's. the real difference is now you can watch world class club matches every week. The Internet and far greater tv coverage of top European matches shows the growth of the sport in the us. There was no way for soccer to really be popular before the Internet. Hosting a World Cup and fledging leagues would never make soccer a mainstay. The World Cup has led to a stable domestic league has piqued interest. Soccer is a relevant sport in the us. I would be shocked, absolutely shocked, if it became the top sport, but I think it will be the fourth biggest sport here.

Football
Baseball
Basketball
Soccer

yeah soccer is a niche sport and i don't see that changing. but a niche sport in america can still become a power with our population and resources. if it can overtake hokcy solidly, i will consider that a huge success

I'm not sure it hasn't already overtaken hockey given how soccer fans' interests are divided between the leagues in Europe and MLS.

the MLS has been a shocking success. in many cities it has a huge local following and they pack their stadiums

the real money is in tv deals, but, i don't think that is going to happen. soccer is a very tiered sport. the MLS will never be a top league, and that's OK. expectations just have to be realistic

The culture is so different in other countries.

Here, we want to "Protect" children from greedy agents and clubs.

In South America, you can be signed by a major club at an age as young as 9.

Lol I'm not going to waste an afternoon on this but all y'all saying soccer isn't on the rise are clueless.

A niche sport? MLS never a top league?

shite in some really poor countries, getting signed to a soccer contract at a young age can, at the lesat, guarantee that kid a level of education he wouldn't otherwise be provided (through the academy)

even if they flame out by 19/20, they're in a better position than they would have been had they just remained in the barrio

It will keep growing in popularity as long as they show big BPL and FA Cup games on Fox. Those matches didn't get network play in the US until relatively recently.

it is a niche sport, which is a lot better than where it was 30 years ago. being a legit niche sport is a sign it's on the rise

You are absolutely right. I'm glad someone gets it.

Zinedine Zidane? Wasn't born in France. He was from Algeria.
