Gruden 2 NFL 0 - heading to trial

Motion to dismiss the case thrown out today as well as NFLs attempt at arbitration instead of trial.

The former Las Vegas Raiders coach had a hearing at the Regional Justice Center in Las Vegas on Wednesday morning in an attempt to have his lawsuit against the NFL and commissioner Roger Goodell proceed as a trial. The league was fighting to make it an arbitration case.
The court quickly ruled in favor of Gruden, who was present in the courtroom. Goodell was not.

Judge rules in favor of Gruden. NFL motion to compel arbitration is denied

Hearing today is on whether Gruden's suit will go to arbitration or stay in the courts. League says contract stipulates arbitration. Gruden's atty says settlement agreement with the Raiders replaced the contract and isn't subject to the NFL's constitution #Raiders
Judge Nancy Allf has now also denied the NFL's motion to dismiss the claim. Case will proceed in this court, but the prospect of discovery in this case has to be a massive concern for the league. Settlement talks likely to begin soon

NFL gonna settle with the quickness. They don't want any dirty laundry being aired.

I hope Gruden doesn't settle. Let it get to discovery Jon

I really wish he would decline any offer, but they will throw a bunch of money at this to make it go away

Gruden is in a unique position to resist a settlement too, given he’s already made a huge chunk of change from both his coaching days and whatever the settlement was, and his dirty laundry was aired, so he could take it all the way, if only to settle the score in that department

Al Davis would be proud, his son just fricked over the NFL commissioner.

Yep. frick you money and an axe to grind is a dangerous combination. I hope he takes this as far as he can.

If Gruden really wants to hurt the NFL, he won't settle.
Releasing all 65,000 Bruce Allen e-mails will probably frick the NFL harder than them paying him $70 million would.
Plus, I think Gruden might actually be under the delusion that a public trial will help him clear his name and he'll be able to coach again.

"I'll tell you what, man, these guys are about to get the business, man. We're going to give em all we got and take em for all they're worth. Also, they're a bunch of queers, man."

Wouldn’t be too much of a leap of logic to connect this news with the rumors going on that the league is currently voting on kicking Snyder out
Posted on 5/25/22 at 2:28 pm to UltimateHog
Seems like this will only lead to Dan Snyder getting forced out

yeah im sure all of you would pass up millions. he's already got millions. you already have hundreds or thousands but you keep trying for more.

It's a lose-lose for the NFL IMO.
Kick Snyder out and he'll air all of their dirty laundry through backchannels to circumvent the NDA.
Keep Snyder and Gruden's lawsuit will air the dirty laundry anyway, all the while it will look like the NFL is protecting Snyder.

Everyone’s got a number, but having 10s of millions in the bank, greatly increases that number and allows you to leverage the other side until it’s a god father offer
Gruden loses this and he’s still rich and retired. Doesn’t lose much outside of court costs, and that could be seen as simply the cost of getting some payback
The NFL loses the moment this hits discovery unless they can get everything under a gag order ( or some similar mechanism, not a lawyer don’t expect me to get that right ). Naturally that creates a pretty advantageous situation for Gruden, either through going through with the suit or enough money to run a small county on

If this goes to a full defamation or wrongful termination civil trial like we are all seeing right now with Depp, and you get weeks upon weeks of testimony, this will lead to far... Far more than just a bad day for Dan Snyder... It will basically expose the entire league, including numerous owners and executives, including Goodell, his top brass, and probably even some players and referees in some way.
Gruden's lawyers (who could very well be backed by Mark Davis) will bring up everything from the fricking Immaculate Reception to the Tuck Rule and crooked refs and game fixing. This is the abolsute very, very last thing the NFL wants.
This has the potential to bring the entire league down. The NFL will basically have to offer Gruden some ungodly sum to make this go away, and they will probably have to publicly apologize to him, or maybe even more.
This is the absolute worst thing that could have ever happened to the Goodell or whomever leaked the private emails to the WSJ. It was a professional hit job, like Brent Muss berger said, but the problem is, they didn't kill their target. They simply filled him with great resolve and awoke a sleeping Chucky...

the tuck rule and immaculate reception have no relevance in this civil suit. Easy objections that will be sustained.
