There have been a lot of home runs though. The record is 21 and we're still what, 20 or more now through 5 games?

True but it was over 100 degrees in LA and the Astros hit a lot of home runs

Haha, Cubs fans are full of it. Just this century, the 2001, 2011, and 2017 series were better and I'm sure there are several others before that were better as well (1991, 1986, 1975, 1960 come to mind)

That's me - I gave up MLB back when the players went out on stride and found I didn't miss it at all.

But this one I have watched from the beginning of the ALCS.

Calling that series last year overrated is quite a reach. You can ask literally anyone without a dog in the fight and they'll disagree. I'm telling you the amount of home runs in this series just has people losing their minds.

100% agree. I have no dog in the fight again this year & both this year and last year's WS were/have been awesomw. Alot of Stros fans in here obviously knighting hard against last year's series bc they're team is in it this year & rightfully so. The first 5 games have been incredible drama & when you're team is involved it means that much more. But the HRs have a lot to do with it. I don't think we'd be having these reaactions by casual fans if the games were 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 type games. Scoring attracts fans in all sports & baseball needs some positive attention instead of the classic "baseball is boring" label. Let's just all agree that this shite is awesome and we need 2 more great games before we have to wait until March again

True baseball fans would rather a 4-3 game than 13-12. Just saying.

"Ever" might be a bit overstated. However, we have at least one more game to go.

1991 was intense. 5 one-run games. Kirby Puckett basically making the HOF with his performance in game 6. Then game 7 with Jack Morris throwing 10 shutout innings!

2001 may have had the greatest 2 games in WS history, games 4 & 5. The ONLY time in baseball history NY was the sentimental favorite, following 9/11, and the Yankees strike in the 9th to eventually win in extra innings. Yankee Stadium those two nights were as good an atmosphere as there has ever been in baseball.

2011 was great. Game 6 is second only to Game 6 of the '86 series.

This one is in the running. But it has to go 7 to really be considered "the greatest ever"

Game 1 - 6-0 Indians
Game 2 - 5-1 Cubs
Game 3 - 1-0 Indians
Game 4 - 7-2 Indians
Game 5 - 3-2 Cubs
Game 6 - 9-3 Cubs
Game 7 - 8-7 Cubs (10 innings)

Games 3, 5, and 7 were good, but the other 4 weren't really competitive. Last year gets a ton of hype because of the Cubs and a ton of mileage out of Game 7.

World Series in my lifetime that were just as good if not better:

1975
1979
1986
1991
1997
2001
2002
2011
2014
2016

Other World Series that were close

1982
1985
1987

I mean, if you're basing this off clutch home runs, bad relief pitching, and miracle comebacks, 2001 is the best.

This has been a very good series, but Games 3 and 4 were a bit of a dud. I don't think that detracts from how great Games 2 and 5 were, but it does keep it from being an all-timer. Let's put this in perspective: 1991 had FIVE onne-run games, and three that went to extras. It also had a massively controversial play (Gant's foot lifted by Hrbek), which to me is a borderline requirement for greatest ever.

Game 5 was fun as hell, but it also ended well past midnight for over half the country, and it didn't have the sort of managerial moves were bicker about forever. It was sit around and wait for the homer. 2016 had some insane maneuvering by Maddon that would still be getting dissected had the Indians won (he called for a safety squeeze with two strikes! Who the hell does that?)

I think this Series closest comp in my life is the 1993 series. Fun as hell, terrible bullpens blowing games left and right, but just shy of Greatest Ever (unless we get an equivalent of a Joe Carter walkoff).

1991 is widely considered to be the best World Series of all time. 3 extra inning games (including Game 7). 5 1-run games. Plenty of controversy. The craziness of the HHH Dome. Walk-off homerun by a future HOFer. And of course the Braves going worst to first and then winning all 3 games at home.

I think the Braves win the series if they don't start Charlie fricking Liebrandt in Game 1. I don't know if they did it because of his previous "experience" or if because the 7 game NLCS forced them to, but I would have preferred a 3 man rotation like the Twins went with.

Last year's WS was fantastic baseball by two evenly matched and talent-rich teams.

This year's WS is fantastic baseball by two talent-rich teams that happen to be evenly matched.

Kind of silly to try to say one is better than the other. The drama of an extra inning Game 7 is unquestionable in offering excitement.

However, this series has offered such dramatic lead changes with so many players make clutch plays.

End of the day, both WS are why baseball fans spend 162+ days tracking their favorite team.

With what was at stake and the teams battling it out like that, rain delay, extra innings. That Game 7 will never be surpassed. But this series as a whole could be better

Game 7 in 1960 was awesome. So was 1991.

The general public has the attention span of a gnat.

Get back to me when one of them is a strike away from elimination twice.

It could be if it goes 7 and that game is tight.
