Didn't they go for 2 and the win against Miami when just kicking the PAT would have secured a MNC?

Yup, and Miami won the title, even though I contest that Auburn should have won the title.

this is about the best team to not win, not the team who got hosed out of playing in the championship game. 2002 miami and 05 usc would have beaten 08 texas

The reason I picked 05 USC is because I honestly believe that was the greatest offense ever assembled. When they were on, they were unstoppable. They are the only team in recent memory that realistically did not need a good defense to win. What cost them the game against Texas was bonehead decisions and calls by the coaching staff and Reggie Bush. That team alone made Lane Kiffin relevant.

I just don't see how 05 USC's offense was better than 02 Miami. Leinart is Dorsey with a better publicist.

Backs-Even imo
Quarterbacks-Slight advantage USC, but it's not as big as people make out.
Wide Receivers-Miami in a landslide
Tight End-Miami in a landslide
OL-Miami as well

The only advantage USC has is Leinart and to me it's not that big of an advantage. Not as big as Andre Johnson and K2 are for Miami.

That defense was full of those guys as freshman and hardly saw the field. That was before Cushing was juicing.
