One dominant figure is not good for the sport...or any sport. When anyone has a shot to win and there are many very good players it makes it much more interesting. This Masters broadcast was sickening with the Tiger suck off fest. Scheffler played some excellent golf and until Sunday was an after thought to the media.

Too much money now for sustained drive to succeed. Golfers make money, get serious with girlfriends, get married or have kids and fall off. Happened to Rory, Jordan and even Brooks (he has also been injured, though). Rickie Fowler is worst case. He cannot even qualify for big tourneys now since getting married.
tbf Rickie Fowler was never as good as the other three guys you mentioned.

Couldn’t agree more. I really enjoy watching golf when you have multiple players who are capable of going on a run and winning. Watching the same guy dominate gets old.
While I understand the excitement about TW and why they focused on his return, it was an insult to the rest of the field that they focused solely on him. By Saturday it was fairly obvious he wasn’t gonna be a factor but the media continued to fellate him. It was nauseating, but not unexpected.
Some really good golf was ignored by the broadcasters.

Who do you feel like you missed out on? The tournament kinda sucked if we’re being honest.

Excluding Tiger, you have to go back 40 years to find a golfer who accomplished as much as Phil.

No mention of the dude that is currently beating the brakes off everyone on tour?

I mean 4 out of the last 6 is pretty Tigerish...

He has the MJ, Brady mentality, who love nothing more in life than competing...even at the detriment of his personal life.

shite. If Tiger had Brady’s discipline he would have broken all of Jack’s records.

Major Downvote!!! Golf is the best it's ever been...ironically that is because of Tiger, but the amount of good young golfers 30ish and under is ridiculous...which is what made The Masters so annoying with all of the Tiger coverage and lack of coverage of other golfers. They really truly talked themselves into believing Tiger could win, when in reality he had no chance. The complete and utter disrespect to the rest of the field (Scheffler), who earned their moment in the sun, at the pinnacle of their sport, was one of the most ridiculous things i have ever watched in golf. ESPN AND CBS dropped the ball big time!! Their coverage was absolutely shameful. Ratings ahead of respect for the game. At one point during the broadcast, they showed a stat of Scottie Scheffler's that nobody else had EVER done at The Masters, all while showing Tiger lining up for a shot. You would think this would be covered with enthusiasm and marketing a new star on the rise...nah...had to show that Tiger put at +4 down 15 strokes. End Rant

Seeing how hard it is for these guys to sustain their success makes what Tiger has done look even more impressive.

But at the same time, made it easier for Tiger to dominate due to lack of elite competition. Its taboo and blasphemy to bring up the fact that Tiger played in a shite era the first half of his career...utter shite!!!

haven't even seen Jordan Speith's name for like 3 years now.

Must not watch golf then, he had a great 2021 and came in third at the 2021 Masters.

Golf isn't an exciting sport, it's not going to do well without a Tiger figure. That's the way it goes.

This is a bad take. Tiger changed the game forever. Golf is 10x as popular now than it was pre-Tiger. It’s never going back to what it was.

Tiger hasn’t broken Jack’s record because of major injuries. How would discipline have prevented that?

Rory seemed like he was going to be the guy but he hasn't won a major since 2014. Then it appeared that Jordan Spieth was the new big name. Now it's been 5 years since he's won a major. We're now seeing a similar trend with Brooks Koepka.

It takes a special psycho to keep grinding that hard once you have 50mm in the bank. Every few years we get a guy that makes a run and people start comparing him to Tiger. Once that money hits the account they tend to ease up on the grind. Can’t say I blame them.

Tiger is a one in a lifetime figure. There might be another winner of sorts but not in the dominating way Tiger was. For a period of time, he was unmatched.

He’s had issues in his personal life that have caused problems for him. If he had Brady or Manning’s focus and maturity his 2010-2022 stretch is probably better.

Scheffler definitely has the game to be the next big thing. Maybe he’s not the most exciting personality but that is a strength of his IMO.

Need to see how the year plays out but he’s quietly had one of the best stretches we’ve seen in very long time.
