Brady...highest win percentage (77%) of any QB in NFL history who played at least 100 games. Thread.
After him, draw a name out of a hat between:
Rodgers (67%) - Probably a better all around QB when you take passing ability, athleticism, TD/INT ratio, etc...just hasn't been on dominating teams like Brady, and his defense has found ways to let him down countless times.
Montana (71%)
Manning (69%)

As great as Brady is (basically all the HOF QBs recognize him as the GOAT), I truly believe the pinnacle of the QB position is peak Montana '87-'90 most specifically 1989. Perfection on so many levels, it can't be topped just watching it.

In 1989...mind you, this is not the concussion defensive hamstring rules of the 2000s...
Montana set a then-NFL record with a passer rating of 112.4, with a completion percentage of 70.2%, and a 26/8 touchdown-to-interception ratio. In the playoffs, Montana was even more dominant, with a 78.3% completion percentage, 800 yards, 11 touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 146.4 rating.
And his YPA was 9.1 that year, this was no Patriot dink and dunk.
Cold Hard Football Facts calls Montana's 1989 season "the one by which we must measure all other passing seasons."

Montana vs. Elway
Was one of the greatest MNF games of all-time.
Both had "games-winning" drives so to speak in the last two minutes of that wild game. It was last man with the ball. Joe was just the best. Brady could disappoint in big moments, Joe never did.

All types of provisions for this... it depends on what that "one game" is.
I picked Marino because he gives you a chance against any defense, in any game. Like I said, hung the 1 loss on the 85 Bears.
Some pick Montana, because he was undefeated in Super Bowls. -that Bears team mauled the 49ers with him.
But he's my top choice in a Super Bowl.
Some pick Brady for his overall record and tons of Super Bowls... he lost a few too and that one game better not be against the Saints.
Elway- another guy that gives you a fighting chance against anyone.
I'm not picking based on Super Bowls, because there's a lot that goes into being a great team. Defenses and running backs used to mean a whole lot more than they do now. Elway was a phenomenal QB in his time, and didn't get the SB rings until he was way past his prime.
Here's another guy I would mention, if we're talking just one game-
Randall Cunningham in his prime. He had a pretty short run, but when he was good, he seemed unbeatable.

What rules are we playing under? Because if you go back and allow DB’s to touch the Receivers it’s different. At that same time QB’s could get this shite knocked out of them on the regular after they threw the ball. Brady and todays QB’s hate to even get touched.

quote:Excellent point. Back in the past, WRs had to face bump and run corners, and safeties that were looking to behead them. Today, that's pass interference and unsportsmanlike conduct/targeting.

And you could crush QBs then. Now, you can't hit neck or head, knees or below, can't grab above the numbers, can't hit a millisecond after they release, and can't hit as soon as they start to slide feet-first.

Dan Marino has been my favorite football player of all-time since I was 6 years old.
But in one game for all the marbles, give me Brady all-day everyday.

Have to agree. maybe the most impressive regular season win in history.

And he was throwing to Jerry Rice and John Taylor

He lost some. He won 7. Will never be done again. And he did it with a bunch of offensive skill people that are not hall of famers.

Yeah, but they didn't win a Super Bowl until they had Terrel Davis
Marino is the best pure passer in the history of the game because he did it when the QB was basically a scarecrow and every snap was a race to see who could break him in half.
Elway and Kelly, both great but both had to have a lot of talent around them.
Montana had the benefit of talent around him and an offense that didn't require the QB to do a lot.
There have been a lot of QBs who could win on the big stage, but there's one that has done it more times and for longer with multiple offensive lineups around him, and now even multiple coaching staffs: Brady.

Agree with Scoob on this topic. It really does matter the situation and so many other factors.

Brady and it’s not really close.he’s already the GOAT QB but If Brady actually went 10-0 in Super Bowls it would’ve not only made him the greatest qb ever it would’ve made him the greatest athlete of all time or at least In the discussion with the likes of Gretzky and pele

quote:no the greatest QB performance in a super bowl was Tom Brady coming back from. 25 point deficit in one half. And he did it throwing to a bunch of 5’9 white dudes not Jerry fricking rice. The one year he ever played with a talent comparable to rice (moss) he was a helmet catch away from 18-0. If you say anyone other than Brady you are choosing to be intentionally obtuse
Montana, nobody was better in Super Bowls and the defining moments of those games. His performance in the 1990 Super Bowl is still the gold standard for perfection when it comes to QB play.

There are only 3 choices...
Bradshaw
Montana
Brady

Montana had 2 huge benefits that lots of people seem to forget. 1. He had the greatest receiver of all time catching passes for him and 2. He had bill walsh as head coach who invented the west coast offense. You know, the offense that became known as pro style because literally every team in the pros copied it because of how effective it was. Montana is an all time great but you have to remember the man was running an offense that evolutionized the entire game of football. Teams had no idea how to defend the concepts Walsh came up with so there was a couple seasons to where a Hall of fame QB feasted on opponents with no idea how to stop the offense. I think you put anyone like Brees, Manning, Marino in that system at that time and they have similar success
