There are not enough private schools in many areas for that. Really not enough public schools either, unless they really stretch out the classes.

No but if the split continues, you may see private schools starting to distance themselves from the LHSAA and creating their own association

Nah. The private schools will/would be just fine.

What you hope happens and what would really happen is two different things.

At the end of the day the private schools overall will always travel better than most public schools and are typically a more civilized product to deal with. Why? Because $$ and parent involvement. If public schools didn’t have tax payer monies to bail their sorry asses out and had to make it on their own, you’d see most of them close with swiftness. And rightfully so. The LHSAA is nothing but a bunch of retired overpaid power tripping asshats.

Just because the privates don’t have the numbers and consensus to do that now, it doesn’t mean they won’t in the future. I would bet more of the big boys such as Zachary will want to join them in the future.

So tax dollars going to public schools are considered bailouts? I am not sure how a public school would make it on its own without tax dollars considering they are publicly funded schools.

I do agree with your LHSAA commentary.

if the selects could have left they would have. they are not leaving... they can't even come close to getting on the same page(s) to leave.

We have had threads on this, too; the select schools were able to prevail in a measure at the LHSAA meeting last month, that will allow the select schools to play the state championship games at different venues and times from the Superdome Classic.

It will, likely, take the Classic from 9 games back down to 5 games.

The higher seed/home teams in the 4 select divisions will be able to either host the state championship game if they have a venue, or choose a venue in their area.

Some of us speculate that, for example, if a greater New Orleans team gets to be the higher seed, that they might choose Yulman or Tad Gormley as both of those are large venues, especially if the teams in question have no on-campus stadium. But it is just speculation at this point.

But it is not separate districts.

Because they are so different. We call them all private schools but really there are different groups of them:

Group A: Your large privates (Jesuit, Brother Martin, Catholic, etc) - They would probably be fine to be in their own league.

Group B: Your smaller wealthier schools (Newman, Episcopal, Country Day, etc ) - They don't want to play against the large privates, but have enough money to form their own league.

Group C: Your super small "Christian" schools (Covenant Christian, Crescent City, etc) - These schools are really no better funded than public schools, and would struggle if they had to travel much for regular season games.

I could see the first two groups, one day, breaking off and forming their own leagues. But they would be two different associations from each other.

Then, you would have to figure out what to do with all the public select schools.

I agree they are "least likely" but I think they could easily survive if they chose to do so. I think for political reasons, they won't.

There simply are not enough of them. Their playoff bracket for football is, what? 13 teams? They would have to play each other, basically, for a regular season, then play each other all over again for playoffs, which they do now.

The only differences are Catholic, St. Paul's, Byrd, and Evangel don't play the rest during regular season. Or do Byrd and Evangel play?

Unfortunately this is true and im a huge Catholic League Guy, played and coached. The administrations can’t agree on anything. The coaches can’t agree on anything. There is no urgency to get anything done. That would take effort on the part of the administrations and they have no desire to do extra work or think extra hard.

Private schools get money from the state also to help run their schools.
