I went to a game back in late Dec before Christmas when they lost to Habs. That was probably my last game at the NVMC. If they dont make the playoffs this year, I can still say that I was there at the last ever playoff game at Fort Neverlose, so at least I'll have that going for me if they pull a 2007 Mets in the next 10 days.

Baloo or any of the regulars
What do you do if you are Toronto, Arizona, or Buffalo?
Do you trade your pick for guaranteed players? Do you take Eichel or McDavid first? Do you trade the pick for a bunch of other picks? Do you file bankruptcy and have the lottery and draft rigged like Pittsburgh does everytime somebody good comes along?
If I am Toronto there is NO WAY I let McDavid go anywhere but Toronto. If I am Buffalo or Arizona I am not sure you can go wrong with either, but I think you have to probably go American to sell tickets.

If you trade your pick, you are an asbolute f'n moron and should be fired immediately. Particularly Buffalo. The Sabres look to be guaranteed to get either McDavid or Eichel, so you should do absolutely nothing and take whichever guy is left (which will totally be Eichel).
Look, I appreciate everyone trying to be contrarians and making the case for a blueliner but it's simple as this: a great forward is more valuable than a great defenseman. Period. If you have a chance to get the next Stamkos or whatever, you do it. You take McDavid, maybe put him in the AHL for a year just to get him used to playing against men, and then let him go. Don't overthink this one.
Toronto is in a tough place. Let's say they lose the lottery, which is likely. Then they are picking, at best 4th (if the standings hold) or 5th. You need to be top 2 to get one of the true stars of the draft. Do you then offer the kitchen sink to whoever is #2? Because no one, I repeat, NO ONE, is trading out of the #1 slot.
I think the panic scenario for everyone is if Columbus wins the lottery. That's a good team that got crushed by injuries. Add McDavid to that team and they are a Stanley Cup contender within two seasons. Heck, maybe this one. The NHL is praying Toronto wins the lottery for marketing purposes. They could then trade Phaneuf and/or Kessel for a lot of great young talent.

Wow, that scenario didn't even cross my mind. That would be a dangerous team.

I think the lottery is going to get rigged for Toronto, that is why I said McDavid does not get out of Toronto. I think though if you take Eichel in Buffalo or Arizona (if they win the lottery) you have gone American and got the top rated (arguably) in the draft.
I would love to see the deal someone offers to the top 2 for either one of them picks.

Here is the other nightmare scenario that nobody has talked about, that I know of.
What happens if Eichel decides to stay at BU? You wont get that pick back. He could possibly try to Eric Lindros the draft process.

Funny you should mention that...first thing I googled.
What happens if Jack Eichel decides to stay in school?

I do not read the USA Today, so I did not know that article was written.
I am sure they are going to not turn down an offer from a NHL club, as they will probably make sure they get his classes at BU paid for also with his contract.

Money talks. Lindros held out because of the issues specific to the Quebec Nordiques. there was a real question whether they were financially viable (he was right). I could imagine, maybe, someone doing the same thing with regards to Florida or Phoenix. But I think he wants to start his clock ASAP, play out his first contract, and then hit the open market.

Winning sells tickets more than nationality. That said - I haven't seen enough of either to say who is first, but they both seem to be very elite and you can't go wrong even though McDavid is the consensus #1.
I agree w Baloo you are a retard if you trade your pick.

If I am Toronto I just implode the air Canada centre and start from scratch

Toews scores twice in the last two minutes to sink Buffalo. Game shouldn't have been that close but

I had to step away for the last two minutes, right after Darling went out. Came back to see the Hawks won. I assumed the Sabres were McDaviding, but when I rewatched, that really was a hell of an effort from the captain.
