Yea checo was absolutely massive in this race. Played his part to perfection.

Fully applying could have meant a red flag too.

Did you hear one of the guys on Sky with the conspiracy theory that Checo was out there on low fuel to go faster to defend Lewis and that's why they pulled him in?

Can we call out Mexico’s Minister of Defense? Without him, no way Max is in the position at the end. All of his lack of consistency this year and he finally does his job in the right moment.

How did Checo help?

Lewis wouldn't have had enough gap to cover a pit. Max still was second.

It was beautiful by Checo, but it didn't really play into the gap when the safety car came.

What was the official reason he had to retire?

Had there been a red, like I wanted, we would have had Max torpedoing into the corner. He would have said “frick it, I take this or we both DNF”

Yeah, RBR pulled him in to prevent an additional safety

red flag

Going back to the start of the race...why was Max's start so bad? Merc engine that much better? .10 reaction time difference?

Strategy would have completely changed had Checo not brought the gap from Ham and Max down by 10 seconds.

Ham would have opened up even more and def had the opportunity to PIT and be on a fresher set.

With the pit delta he wasn't anywhere close. Best case he was 15 seconds ahead instead of 5.

Checo deserves a nice fat check from Max along with Latifi

He was 12 seconds up on Max before Checo brought that down to 2… Ham then immediately opened it back up to 5 within a few laps.

Ham could have easily been up near 20 seconds and had the ability to react instead of be in the danger zone like Merc kept telling him.

I'm so glad you brought this up. I've watched that start now at least six times, and I could swear that Ham takes off a split second before the start.

He could have pitted under the VSC without losing track position though right if he had been 15+ seconds ahead?

Haha, was just thinking the same.

Max didn't catch Lewis until his new set of hards, which was under VSC.

I really want to see where Lewis was when the VSC ended. That was his only opportunity to pit without giving up track position.

It’s replaying right now… It’s lap 33 and Ham is up 5.3 on Max, so he would have been up 17 right now without Checo
