So I always try to not read too much into FP1 but with this new format I'm having a hard time not doing just that.
There are typically three practice sessions before qualy, so teams could afford even to use substitute drivers in FP1. But in this weekend's format there is only one practice before the first qualy session, so FP1 is far more important than usual.

With R&D somewhat limited it won't hurt the teams too much, but I wonder how much teams will like giving up their track time next year when lots of research will need to be done.

I do love watching qualy live at a reasonable time. It's usually 6:00 am for me.

I would imagine a lot of North America is at work so missing this quali will be a discussion.
It works for Great Britain this race, but in the future they will lose some viewership if these fall on Friday during work time.

Im watching it now, hell with work
Max just lost the rear a bit in the final corner and still went 0.4 up on Hamilton in P2. Pretty impressive.

I'm in the middle of a meeting... and also watching qualy.
Work from Home (because COVID) FTW!

I thought I was taking crazy pills seeing qualifying pop up this afternoon on my YTTV

George throwing down a hell of a time

Russell up in P7 and on to Q3!

C'mon, there's no way Russell isn't displacing Bottas next year.

George has pretty much announced it.
Think Toto told him to calm the frick down so now he has had to backtrack.

That onboard of Russell makes the Williams look very settled. Much better than it has in the past.

Apparently yelling "frick yea George!" get's HR called on you. I'm not so certain I like these new formats.

The teams may be looking to next year, but the drivers are pushing these cars like crazy.

The devil works hard, but Russell's PR team works harder

Bottas attitude just said it all.

Mercedes with the 1/3 quali like old times.

I'm interested to see what happens with the sprint race tomorrow, the points should make for decent racing at the top, but I am anxious to see how the midfield approaches the race.

I just keep getting stuck on the what-ifs.
What if Bottas nicks Verstappen in the first corner and Verstappen is out.
Why is Haas even going to run? Who is going to see the extra wear/tear on the engines as not worth a couple grid place advancements.
With the cars in Parc Ferme for pretty much the whole weekend who is going to do what in FP2? For instance will Merc risk their 1/3 (or Williams it's high position) and send the cars out on long stints in practice?
Today was a good quali session, not great, but maybe better than average. And it just has a lackluster feel to it.
